  • Never used them myself but other videos I found make these seem very much like a children's PE class / therapeutic kind of thing. Hopefully some kind Germans can enlighten us on the use case of Pedalos

  • Even if it's only for 15~20 minutes, I make time every weekday morning to run before getting ready for work. Holidays and such I'll do a longer run. Was a pain at first but over the years it's just something my body does. I figure when it comes to cardio, too little is better than none.

    Building healthy habits is real.

  • My first thought reading your comment is of the award winning director of No Other Land who got attacked and detained after having already received his Oscar... Then there's photo journalist Fatma Hassona who was the subject of the documentary Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk who got killed in a bombing alongside her whole family.

We are unfortunately learning that becoming famous doesn't necessarily protect people...

  • Oh right, and then he said he loves using the laptop now or something like that

  • I believe he said he started with Mint then moved to Arch, partially because of the memes.

  • Honestly yeah, that was it for me. Seeing him get elected this time was really this feeling of "Oh, that's just how it is over there huh?".

The first time I could just believe your voting systems are messed up with the electoral college and all, and the massive push back that happened. Feelings were also optimistic coming off the Obama years.

But now that he's spent the last several years fully mask off, investigated up and down revealing all the crazy things we'd been hearing about him and his cronies were true, and he still gets elected? By majority vote too?? There's no excuses.

The US is actually just like that huh?

  • Oh, so if it's going to be down voted anyway, then a lot of down votes feels good? Guess that's more validating than a middling response

  • I guess getting people to rage can feel validating, knowing that I've made someone rage quit a game feels satisfying for sure.

I don't personally feel that way about sites like Lemmy/Reddit/Social-media in general where things are more discussion and social-interaction based though. I guess for my kind of discourse goals, if I've made someone angry rather than laugh or understand my perspective, I've done a bad job.

  • Genuinely curious, does that mean that, for you, getting downvoted gives you dopamine/a sense of accomplishment?

Your above comment is in the negative when I'm making this comment. Does that feel good? Again, genuinely curious, hard to put a non-judgemental tone in writing.

I can't relate to that feeling, upvotes and downvotes to me show how much a community agrees or disagrees with what I've said. Either what I said isn't right for the community I posted it in or maybe just a generally unpopular opinion if I'm getting downvotes. Might make me reflect but usually no big deal, I'm mostly here for the discussions, memes and current events. Outside of trolling I don't really see how getting downvoted might be seen as a good thing by a poster.

  • That is odd... I browse "All" by "Hot" maybe two or three times a day and see new things frequently. Maybe it's an instance issue? I'm not familiar with lemm.ee and if they've done a lot of defederating

  • I believe it, but I honestly don't think it would make any difference in the world at this point if proven anyway

  • He's burning down P. Sherman's dentist office! Hope the fish tank is alright

  • Feel like this was obvious but it's good to have some actual data

  • I'd like to say I did that on purpose to show how dumb they'd be renaming it, but it is I who can't remember my East and West

  • True. Guess it's more like them getting Google to change Greenland into West Alaska

  • Imagine being a tourist in the US, looking for an address you believe to be say, Martin Luther King Street. Can't find it anywhere, even on Google maps, then eventually you talk to someone and find out it's now called Elon Musk Avenue.

Not saying this is exactly the same, but if we're letting people change the names of places on commonly used global map software willy nilly, even if it's just region to region, we're gonna end up with problems. It's not like "freedom fries" back in the day that legitimately affected no one.

And I am suddenly seeing a parenthetical on the Gulf here outside the US, so there technically was a sudden change

  • I tried the first episode but barely got a quarter way through. Made me too sad

  • In the waters around coral reefs I've always noticed a constant clicking/scraping nose. I was told as a kid that's the sound of the coral polyps but I never really looked into it. Grew up snorkeling a whole lot in my home country and that was the first thing your post made me think of.
