  • I don't use keypass. And this is going to be a me problem. I just found out android password store has been archived in 2024 so I'll need a replacement that works with pass

  • IronFox is pretty good. My only gripe with it is that my password store doesn't recognize it as a web browser.

For example, in Firefox if I go to gitlab.com and sign in, my password store does a lookup for passwords that have gitlab.com in the path. But with IronFox the lookup is for IronFox, which is similar to what happens if I use a qr code reader app to open a link in webview. But I have webview disabled so I think it's just something proprietary in Firefox that was striped out.

  • Well again, the claim was that somehow passkeys would stop Lemmy from being flooded by bots.

So in that situation, we aren't talking about hacking. We are simply talking about if a login could be triggered programmatically. So if Lemmy required passkeys to be used instead of passwords. And if the passkeys required scanning a QR code to sign in. I imagine It would provide minimal disruption to an automated login.

Now if the passkeys somehow enforced a real human to do something that only a human could do, then yes it would stop an automated registration/login. However if it's possible to automate then it wouldn't stop bots.

  • NGL, I'd much rather that be the new tactical camo that I can get my Mossberg 500 accessories in.

  • Oh I don't know what it is, sorry I thought I made that clear. But a quick search on the internet said it was basically 2fa with a qr code and since the issue was how it would protect Lemmy from bots I just thought it wouldn't be hard for a bot to read a qr code.

  • Insane

  • That was why I remembered it, it was just so dumb. Like first what tf are kids in kindergarten even getting graded on?

  • Consider buying a previous generation card. You can sometimes find good deals on used ones.

  • I wouldn't recognize and ice vehicle, and I'd assume I'm about to be carjacked or worse.

  • Being attractive improves literally every aspect of your life. I forget the study but I read once that kindergarten teachers consistently gave better grades to the more attractive students for example.

However if someone is an asshole they will still be mean.

  • Oh, you can easily bypass passkeys with automation. Don't even need an image recognition model, just a QR-code scanner like zbarimg.

But i never tried googles passkey feature since it never seemed as secure as a 48 char computer generated password. So I'm not sure exactly how it works.

  • What would you propose replace passwords to not be susceptible to those things?

I personally like how secure and non intrusive passwords are, especially when using a self hosted password manager synced with git.

  • Its also the time of year to start thinking about buying chicks. Its a commitment and I recommend doing your research but if you can properly care for egg laying hens then I highly recommend you consider building the required infrastructure and having hens. There is an initial investment, but now it costs me about $3 to produce a dozen pasture raised eggs.

Notes: Some terms listed with a plus sign represent combinations of words that, when used together, acknowledge transgender people, which is not in keeping with the current federal government’s position that there are only two, immutable sexes. Any term collected above was included on at least one agency’s list, which does not necessarily imply that other agencies are also discouraged from using it.

  • If they want to hurt you, they will hurt you. At the very minimum they could invade your privacy by doing things like tracing all your internet usage through your isp in the hopes of finding something. This would not only be impossible for you to notice but pretty hard for you to stop. They could also just do like what the Truman administration did during the 2nd red scare and physically track you and interfere with your life in many ways. Like the US government did this before without any consequence so what would stop them from doing it again?

To quote a book I just finished

Hoover’s counterintelligence program gave official sanction to “disrupt, disorganize and neutralize” chosen targets. The first was the CPUSA, practically moribund by this date with fewer than five thousand members, some fifteen hundred of whom were FBI informants. The many tactics used included planted news stories alleging criminal conduct; anonymous letters and phone calls disseminating derogatory information, real or manufactured; hang-up calls, lockstep surveillance, and intrusive photography; on-the-job-site interviews; the questioning of teachers (if the target had children) and the questioning of the parents of the children’s friends; IRS audits; and planted evidence which would result in arrests. As new perceived threats emerged—the civil rights movement, the New Left, and black nationalism—COINTELPRO grew more violent, with talk of poisoning children, the sanctioning and encouragement of assassinations, and even murder.

Red Scare: Memories of the American Inquisition by Griffin Fariello

On top of what's listed here, the FBI also did "bag jobs" which was really just breaking and entering, trashing the house and trying to find anything of value or incriminating and just stealing it. So to modernize that a bit, an agent could just break your window and steal your computer anytime you're not home without you even knowing it was the FBI that did it.

Another thing they did was denied passports (and freedom of travel) to anyone that the was labeled as a subversive or who they claimed disagreed with the American government, and that's something which is happening right now if you are trans.

  • you wear shiny objects on your chest, are you proud?

  • Ponzi schemes require someone to make a profit as they return a portion of the investments and keep the rest. As a public service, there's no profit to be had during the distribution of funds. So no, it's not.
