  • We can blame multiple things. But I think we have to remember that capitalism and greed has been the leading cause or excuse of this behavior for most of human history.

    Hitler became wealthy beyond his wildest dreams.

    The slave trade was extremely lucrative for the Dutch east India company.

    Most empires in history traded humans they conquered as commodities.

    This is to say, the point isnt only just cruelty.

    I think the more abstract power concept is also very much the point, but it might be harder for some people to grasp. It is hard to quantify power, but easy to quantify money. And money is traded for power in our society.

  • I get that. I used to do that and the mods of this community deleted my posts for doing so. They claimed something about fair use. I really don't care to figure out what each mods arbitrary notion of fair use is so I just don't do that here anymore intentionally. As I would rather share the news than not.
