  • It would probably make me distrust the prosecution, like if they're bringing this up they must not have much to go on. Like every time a black man is shot by police they bring up that he smoked weed.

    I guess my main complaint is that it's insane to view it as equivalent to real CP, and it's harmful to waste any resources prosecuting it.

    "Liberal" = socially liberal: gay marriage ok, trans people ok, immigrants ok

    "Neoliberal" = economically liberal: laissez-faire, lower taxes on businesses, fewer worker protections

    "Liberal" is left-wing. "Neoliberal" is right-wing. Sounds similar, very different. There are a lot of bad actors on lemmy who intentionally try to conflate the two. Don't let them confuse you.

    • Yes, this is an explicit step away from the authority of the federal government
    • It is FAR from California's first step (recognizing gay marriage; sanctuary state; legal weed; etc)
    • It is not a complete defiance of federal law per se. I suspect that the way California is going to try to negotiate will be by offering breaks on its own state and local taxes. California has a decent slew of state level taxes on many things. The state may be willing to reduce its own state taxes to offset the federal taxes as part of a separate deal with foreign nations.
