  • If I understand right they actually tried to work with AMD to implement an experimental new socket standard or something to get the low latency they needed, but weren't able to get the results they were after

    This device isn't really for me, but the amount of RAM it comes with should last a very long time, and the fact that it's soldered unfortunately is important to its unique performance

  • I think you might benefit from trying the "local" feed, which is just your home instance :)

    It could perhaps be better communicated though, but I'm not sure what framing or label might make it more clear what local means for less technical folks

    It might just be something people need to learn because the fediverse is a different thing than traditional social platforms. But I don't think that possibility should stop us from improving clarity if we can think of a good way to do so :)

  • Thats an interesting idea. That contrasts against how I'd kind of thought of it as being similar to the internal toxicity and infighting of the political left

    Some of the toxic patterns kind of remind me of purity testing and the same attacking people for being "one of the bad guys" when there isn't truly good reasons tho think they are

    I appreciate another perspective to consider, thank you for sharing your thoughts

  • Unfortunately I really don't think they are. Maybe it's a small part of it, but it feels like there are a lot of similar social issues that follow the same pattern

    I feel like it's tempting to just tell ourselves it's an outside evil, but I don't think that helps us do anything about the problem

  • What could cause the captain of such a well-received vessel abandon the helm and move ashore so soon after launch?

    The answer, alas, is a familiar one: people.

    For a space fundamentally built on collaboration and a more pro social approach to building things together, it's very frustrating how common anti-social, antagonistic behavior is in open source, free license spaces.

    To me it feels like a real and significant hinderance to FOSS, and I really hope we can collectively develop more awareness about this issue so we can hopefully address it :/

  • I thought maybe this is the issue I have been having but this seems different. I think mine is a memory usage issue with Firefox, potentially with using YouTube through Firefox specifically

  • Yeah... I'm not sure that's a good monetization model... I feel like even the standard taking a small cut of every transaction is a better idea than that :/

    It feels really overly punishing for small artists while being very reasonable for established larger artists, which sucks
