Big fan of SBC gaming, open source engine recreations/source ports, gaming in general, alternative operating systems, and all things modding.

    Most people aren't going to put in the effort. If OP's account deletion spreads across most of Lemmy, even just the larger instances, most people aren't going to see their older posts.

    That seems to be what OP is after. More in line with hiding poorly written Doctor Who fan fiction than hiding from the government in the woods.

  • Don't you think that's shifting the goalpost a bit? OP isn't talking about something being archived they're talking about a piece of content on social media still directly linking to that username.

    Deleting things in as many places as possible making it harder to access is still a net positive.

    It's about as much of a part or mechanic of Lemmy as posting is.

  • I am American so I can't really answer but what would count as American social media?

    I feel like it would be most large social network sites and an unpredictable amount of smaller ones

  • An RG35XXSP. Basically an emulator in the style of a GBA SP. I've had other handheld emulators before but I like the style of this one with KNULLI.

    • Amiga, or retro-computing in general. Not just for gaming. There's something deeply inspiring about browsing the web or creating spreadsheets with entirely different hardware and software. Hoping to get an Alpha CPU and/ or an Atari soon.

    Kind of similar but obscure operating systems in general are things I'm a big fan of like TempleOS, HaikuOS, AROS, and MorphOS. OSs that are more than odd Linux distros.

    Something about the ARM architecture also seems really neat to me.

  • I hadn't thought about fandom's based around people rather than properties (ex. Movie/game series). I imagine a lot of people feel that way about late Rooster Teeth.

  • To me it means a wave of seasonal content and not much else. I'll watch Christmas movies and shows but I don't have the space or time to go all out with Christmas just for me to enjoy

  • Hell yeah. I tried to train one to feed me misinformation and encourage bad habits like drinking and driving and it was a lot more fun and lively than anything else I've seen

  • Yeah I feel like having control over the things you use is definitely a big part. Something that really hampers my enthusiasm for AI is that so much of it is out of my control and generally disconnected from me.

    Having AI that I can modify and run locally on my devices seems a lot more sci-fi than something that can relies so heavily on the Internet and rigid responses.

  • I find it's a lot of those ideal use cases I find futuristic. The RISC V architecture and Briar are kind of similar. They're really neat and I could see some cyberpunk style uses for them but the drive for their adoption and the level of it just doesn't seem to be there yet.

  • I feel like that really depends on how you view futuristic.

    I think things with colored e-ink displays, USB C chargeable AA batteries, handheld emulators, 2230 NVMe drives, and USB C power portable displays are really cool but I feel like their availability these days has made them lose a bit of their futuristic luster. They would have blown my mind when I was a kid.

    More niche products like Meshtastic and ESP32 Marauder devices are things I view as futuristic (and can be found for under $100).

  • The lack of interest in it even amongst tech communities and bridges (they can link Matrix servers and Discord servers) constantly being down has kept me from giving Matrix a second chance.

    I think it was a Linux gaming community last time that got flooded with hate content after the bridge went down and the Matrix side was left to itself.

  • Reddit unfortunately. Every so often I'll search for a topic online and in the related posts/communities section I will find an obscure one and just see what the top voted posts are

  • I feel like Google Maps is going to be the biggest hurdle. I mentioned in another comment but a minimalist launcher might help.

    Beyond that you could always consider getting a case for the Nokia phone off of Ali Express or looking up feature phone operating systems. For example KiaOS is quite popular among feature phones and appears on some Nokia ones.
