Independent thinker valuing discussions grounded in reason, not emotions.

Open to reconsider my views in light of good-faith counter-arguments but also willing to defend what's right, even when it's unpopular. My goal is to engage in dialogue that seeks truth rather than scoring points.

  • My daily driver MacBook Pro has 8GB of RAM, and so far, that’s been perfectly sufficient for my needs. Some might argue that 8GB is inadequate for a 1,700€ device, but I don’t think most people would notice a difference. This focus on specs might make more sense with computers, but with smartphones especially, I never understood the obsession with performance. My mid-range Samsung handles everything instantly - I can’t think of a reason it would need to be any faster. Numbers on a paper seem irrelevant when it doesn't translate to everyday use.

    By advanced artificial general intelligence, I mean AI systems that rival or surpass the human brain in complexity and speed, that can acquire, manipulate and reason with general knowledge, and that are usable in essentially any phase of industrial or military operations where a human intelligence would otherwise be needed. Such systems may be modeled on the human brain, but they do not necessarily have to be, and they do not have to be "conscious" or possess any other competence that is not strictly relevant to their application. What matters is that such systems can be used to replace human brains in tasks ranging from organizing and running a mine or a factory to piloting an airplane, analyzing intelligence data or planning a battle.

    It definitely doesn't imply sentience. Even artificial super intelligence doesn't need to be sentient. Intelligence means the ability to acquire, undestand and use knowledge. A self driving car is intelligent too but almost definitely not sentient.

  • LLMs are true AI. AI doesn’t mean what most people think it means. AI systems from sci-fi movies like HAL 9000, JARVIS, Ava, Mother, Samantha, Skynet, and GERTY are all AI, but more specifically, they are AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). AGI is always a type of AI, but AI isn’t always AGI. Even a simple chess-playing robot is an AI, but it’s a narrow intelligence - not general. It might perform as well as or better than humans at one specific task, but this ability doesn’t translate to other tasks. AI itself is a very broad category, kind of like the term 'plants.'

  • I guess it's not so much a test I perform but a signal I listen for. However my attitude toward lying is probably a bit different from most people. It’s a major red flag for me, and usually, people are completely unaware they’re waving it. Even if it’s something relatively inconsequential, when I see someone effortlessly lying to another person, I assume they’d do the same to me. The fact that they’re so oblivious to it, not even trying to hide it, just strengthens the impression that lying is normal for them. This applies to many, if not most white lies as well.

  • I came across a cat while riding my bike. I pstpstpsted at it for like five minutes, and it kept pretending not to be interested. Then, out of nowhere, it just walked up to me - didn’t even stop to sniff, just went straight in for a headbutt and demanded petting.

    I gave him a full deep-tissue massage, and he loved it, as if no one had ever petted him before. I don’t think I’ve ever met a cat that friendly.

    I agree about the paint - the best way to prevent rust is to keep the steel from coming into contact with water in the first place. I’m not sure how well paint adheres to stainless steel, but if I were to get a Cybertruck, wrapping it would seem like the obvious thing to do, which is what many people do with new, expensive cars anyway. Another advantage the Cybertruck has over other vehicles is that its steel is much thicker, so it’s not only less likely to dent, but it would also take much longer to rust through, even if it were made of normal steel.

    I’m not saying that you are, but many people get overly emotional about this vehicle because of its controversial CEO, and I feel it’s getting a bit of unfair treatment as a result. I don’t think there’s a vehicle on the planet that would pass this level of scrutiny without criticism. Just yesterday, I watched a video of a $700k brand new Lamborghini that was never driven or washed, needing extensive paint correction due to poor quality finish straight from the factory. It seems indefensible for a vehicle of that price, but it is what it is.

  • All else being equal, stainless steel is a superior material compared to regular steel. I don’t get why that’s so difficult to admit. If my truck had been used in the exact same way but was made of stainless steel, it wouldn’t be rusting through. It might not be completely rust-free, but it would definitely be less rusty.

  • I think you’d still agree that, compared to the regular steel used in most other vehicles, one made of stainless steel would offer superior corrosion resistance, right? It may not last forever, but it sure beats the alternative.

    My 17-year-old truck has its wheel arches rusting through, despite the paint and undercoating. I feel pretty confident saying this wouldn’t be the case if it were made of stainless steel.
