Independent thinker valuing discussions grounded in reason, not emotions.

Open to reconsider my views in light of good-faith counter-arguments but also willing to defend what's right, even when it's unpopular. My goal is to engage in dialogue that seeks truth rather than scoring points.

  • The reason I personally don't recommend or hardly even mention Lemmy to anyone else is because here's hardly any content they'd be interested in. The vast majority of posts are quite esoteric and directed at the kind of people who already are here.

  • The AI we have today is the worst it'll ever be. I can only think of two possible scenarios where AI doesn't eventually surpass human on every single cognitive task:

    1. There's something fundamentally different about computer made of meat (our brains) that cannot be replicated in silica. I personally don't see this as very likely since both are made of matter and matter obeys the laws of physics.
    2. We destroy ourselves before we reach AGI.

    Otherwise we'll keep improving our technology and inching forward. It may take 5 years or 50 but it wont stop unless either of the scenarios stated above is true.

  • I disagree. Information can be factual independent of who or what said it. If it's false, then point to the errors in it, not to the source.

  • I've tasted the dried crickets and mealworms that I feed to my gerbils. Infact, just today I got an intrusive thought about tasting one of the pellets I'm feeding them too. I didn't but maybe I should.
