Independent thinker valuing discussions grounded in reason, not emotions.

Open to reconsider my views in light of good-faith counter-arguments but also willing to defend what's right, even when it's unpopular. My goal is to engage in dialogue that seeks truth rather than scoring points.

  • So that I don't need to drill holes thru the waterproofing. Most modern toilet seats here don't even have screw holes in them. The adhesive can be cut thru with an utility blade and the seat removed if needed.

  • What a certain stock does within days of a big announcement like this is one of the most meaningless things to write news articles about. In a month, the value is usually back to where it was, and that’s what nobody ever writes about.

    A few months ago, the S&P 500 dipped, and there were countless articles about whether investors should panic. Not only is it back to normal now, but it’s even higher than before.

  • I had a stalker ex-girlfriend who made me paranoid. Ever since, I’ve assumed I’m compromised after about a year, and that’s when I create a new account to start from scratch and lose the tail. I could probably make a significant amount of money by selling all those abandoned accounts with tons of karma and a legitimate comment history.

  • There's a certain group of users I tend to come across here regularly. I post a lot myself too but I also have a habit of making new account about once a year so that not all my messages are from one user. I doubt many would remember me.

  • Indoor plumbing indeed is one of those things people hardly pay any attention to untill it stops working. The fact that you can just take a dump, flush and it's gone is a luxury not even kings had few hundred years back. Cities used to have raised crosswalks so that you don't have to step into a river of shit when crossing the road (granted that was mosly horse shit)

  • No, and neither are your eyes, but you can still see the world in 3D.

    You can use normal cameras to create 3D images by placing two cameras next to each other and creating a stereogram. Alternatively, you can do this with just one camera by taking a photo, moving it slightly, and then taking another photo - exactly what cameras in a moving vehicle are doing all the time. Objects closer to the camera move differently than the background. If you have a billboard with a person on it, the background in that picture moves differently relative to the person than the background behind an actual person would.

  • You’re being paid a wage for the work you do, which is effectively the same as charging for your services. I also don’t understand why you think I can just charge my customers whatever I want. There’s a certain price range that plumbers in my area operate within, and if I set my prices higher than that, nobody will hire me.

    It’s not like society is forcing you to be a wage slave either - you’re free to start your own business, just like everyone else.

  • A lidar alone can't do that. It'll just build a 3D point cloud. You still need software to detect the individual objects in there and that's easier said than done. So far Tesla seems to be achieving this just fine by using cameras alone. Human eyes can tell the difference between an actual person and a picture of a person too. I don't see how this is supposed to be somethin you can't do with just cameras.
