  • Strange how all these countries also have public healthcare.

  • To be pedantic, there is no 6e. Just 6A. I am looking at a spool labelled 6e as I type this, but that’s just a manufacturer thing, not an actual spec.

  • $AAPL stonk go up.

  • varicose veins

    wasn’t as active

    lost muscle mass, like significantly.

Find a workout or sport routine you enjoy and commit to it. Be mindful of you diet. You’ve got another 10 years at least before things start to get sore.

  • People with bad diets make poop that doesn’t flush easily as healthy poop that’s got fiber in it.

Also, Americans always need to invent their own way to do things (cheaper), instead of using the existing European and Japanese toilets. The early ones wouldn’t flush a tissue.

  • Asian indices are down double digits (percentage). FTSE “holding” at -4% as of this post.

  • If you just started, this is a blip. It sounds like an aphorism because it is, but the whole thing with retirement. investing is to focus on the long term.

I’m not apologizing for the asshole who is trying to wipe out the global economy. Some portfolios may be worse than others, particularly if you’re biased into certain industries (and frankly tech stocks overweighted the indices the last few years). Historically, it will come back. Personally, I am down as well in my index tracking ETFs.

  • Don’t leave famous anti-onanist Kellog out. He promoted the idea of high carb breakfasts to dull the sexual appetite. Contrast to the filthy-minded English, eating titillating substances like sausages and eggs.

Anyhow, there’s “dessert for breakfast” foods and there’s “breakfast” foods and it sounds like your girlfriend is a bit more towards the dessert side of the spectrum. Nothing wrong with a fry-up. I used to be a big dessert for breakfast guy but I realized that it sent me into a sugar rush/crash and was very bad for my mood and productivity.

Personally, I just don’t bother with it. Started off as intermittent fasting but now that I’ve seen there’s not a ton of evidence to support the theory, I just don’t because convenience.

  • I’m not trivializing the rout, but the S&P, DJIA, DAX, FTSE, HSI, are still (marginally) up over the last two years. An index fund should be as well.

  • When my employer reimburses me fully, I will pay for two connections. But they don’t, even though they (could) save a ton of money by closing the office.

  • Tesla shares rose

As if somehow his involvement at Tesla is a good thing.

If they could build a car that competes with BYD and other Chinese manufacturers in cost, it might be worth a fraction of its current value, but they cannot. Their cars are aging, the tech isn’t leading edge anymore, and they haven’t demonstrated that they have learned how to move from design to production without a huge on-ramp. Their PE should be lower than Ford or even VW.

  • They already do. Mississippi water levels can be managed through Lake Michigan via the naval canal.

  • It has gotten so much better over the years. Which is more testament to how unutterably awful it was at release than how good it is now.

  • Several years ago I inadvertently (because I didn’t realize who they were) got in a twitter argument with someone who I seem to recall as the creator of electron about how it was fucking embarrassing how bad electron apps are. At the time I kinda felt bad because he seemed like a decent guy and I let loose but I wonder what the carbon footprint of his little side project is…

I think what started the rant was that back at that time, if you scrolled one page back in a chat, it would display a graphic representing a chat while it loaded the chat. And the fucking software was sitting there using a GB of ram and couldn’t keep 5 min of conversation cached. Just inexcusably bad.

I don’t know who at Microsoft had such a hard-on for electron back then, but it seems to have spread and it’s still nowhere close to the good old windows GUI for resource usage.

Thankfully it has gotten better. Slightly. Still pegs my CPU but I think that’s because I have a shit CPU with integrated gfx

  • It uses a fucking inordinate amount of resources to accomplish its task, mostly.

  • I’ve seen it grow low. Like thyme.

  • What sort of isp supplied residential equipment doesn’t block inbound connections? Pedantically, you’re correct.

  • You have a firewall. It’s in your router, and it is what makes it so that you have to VPN into the server. Otherwise the server would be accessible. NAT is, effectively, a firewall.

Should you add another layer, perhaps an IPS or deny-listing? Maybe it’s a good idea.

  • Not just salary - H1B are also good at following orders, because if they lose their job, they will get deported.
