As someone who remembers what mattresses used to cost before you could buy memory foam mattresses that shipped in a small box from China, $2000 doesn't seem that bad. My wife paid $1500 for some POS Serta mattress and box spring fron some perpetually "going out of business" mattress store when we first got together in the mid 2000s. Without checking an inflation calculator, I imagine that was the equivalent to $4k today for a lumpy mattress with springs that poked your back.

When I was in college I got a bike to ride the couple miles to school to save money and all that. I made it two weeks before a car turned in front of me and I crashed over the handlebars onto the pavement. After that I just drove to school.

I've spent thousands on hardware and software for my media server, so it seems that piracy does fuel the retail market in ways that buying second hand doesn't. Perhaps you're right and they're not the same. I think piracy generates more revenue than buying second hand, elevating it well above buying used copies, which is now the most harmful way to consume media.

I think i have a SmartTag 2 and got about 6 months of battery life out of the box on the one I put in my vehicle. It sits most of the time and the tag is always in power saving mode.
No way, LEDs can be tiny. Just look at how many they cram into displays like your phone or TV. The biggest thing is likely to be the battery but those can be made in all kinds of form factors.

Pretty neat but $15k for a little tub (these things are the size of a modern UTV or Suzuki Samurai) and wheels seems pretty crazy. Not to mention what I imagine to be shipping costs in the range of thousands of dollars. You'll have to buy an engine, transmission, transfer case, axles, and fuel system which could easily run you another $15k, then assemble it all for another $15k if you're paying someone, and another $15k for paint and bodywork. Easily $60k for a 1940s era technology with 60HP and absolutely zero creature comforts.
