  • You're 100% right about that. I've never ran out of nice posts to look at on Pixelfed. I think the medium & format is a lot less addictive and a lot more relaxing/positive, which might help to explain it.

  • Pixelfed is definitely a good example of "its what you make it".

Try searching for and following some hashtags that you're interested in. I have an awesome home feed made up of art, design and photography hashtags and artists.

  • I would love to know how you get on with this.

  • The people who make writefreely are saying that they are working on making image uploads possible for self-hosted instances, not just their own at write.as. Currently if you are self-hosting you can insert an image but it must be hosted elsewhere and inserted via a markdown link.

  • Oh OK, that makes sense - you're talking about clones right? I thought you were saying that they don't even come out the same species 🤣

  • Wild maple trees for example do not grow true from seed.

    How do they reproduce?

  • There are different ideas about the purpose of imprisonment but the ones I'm aware of are exclusion, deterrence, punishment and rehabilitation. The second two are predicated on prison being worse than freedom, which obviously doesn't hold for people in a lot of situations. In fact I've heard of people comitting minor crimes so they can be let into prison.

Unless prisons can get really good at rehabilitation then the only way they can be effective is if life outside of prison is healthy and prosperous.

  • This looks a lot like Writefreely.

  • And you would be able to see blog posts in a fediverse feed and subscribe to a blog that way.

  • Good work!

  • I suppose telephones were a sort of fediverse.

  • Is this to do with just forgetting about something for a long time or is it to do with remembering something and panicking about where it is?

  • Yeah good - everyone is really positive about it when I tell them.

I'm not sure how many of them end up using the fediverse based on our conversation but I think broader and more important cultural changes are built on slow but widespread indications of shifting values; I think conversations about what the fediverse stands for is actually more important than people using it.

  • I don't use any closed source or centralised social media any more but I speak to people in real life about the Fediverse and share links to fediverse posts with my friends and family.

  • In your Lemmy account settings, set your default feed to 'subscribed' instead of 'all'.

When you open the app or log in on your browser you will only see communities you've subscribed to.

It will greatly improve your (and everyone else's) experience if you subscribe to positive communties and participate in them.

  • Yeah, I haven't logged into my fb account for a couple of years but this might be a good reason to go in and leave something in my 'bio' or whatever monstrosity it is these days, I can't even remember.

  • Man, Dansup is tearing it up like an absolute beast. Donate to his fund.

  • The guy at the end of Hotline Miami was pretty tough.
