  • Huh, I know I used to watch Mr Rogers when I was real little, but I have few memories from that far back. But I also, to this day, get uncomfortable putting my fingers or toes near drains.

I need to hear this song. Maybe it'll trigger some latent memory and unlock some long-forgotten trauma.

Edit: Found it, no memories unlocked. :(

  • Man, I'm an idiot. I dunno why I forgot for a moment that other drains exist lol. That makes sense, thanks!

  • How are fats, oils, and grease getting into the sewer system, though? Are there enough of those materials left in our poop to conglomerate like that? Or are those from industrial users on the sewer system?

  • For generative AI, yes.

  • I had to get a sleep mask because I can't put up blackout curtains in my apartment. Works well enough for me. But also, I'm pretty sure I've got a mutation on my DEC2 gene, because I only sleep 4-5 hours a night (or day, technically) and feel just fine, so I'm not sure if that helps or hinders my abilities during my waking hours.

  • That's not what I asked.

  • That's a bad take. The mods made the choice to moderate a general-purpose community in the first place. If they want a more narrowly-focused community, they should make one.

  • Nobody was doing that here, though. Have you even seen this community? It's super inactive to begin with.

  • How does that disqualify US political questions from being posted here, then?

  • Most added sugars are going to be HFCS these days. But also, that's under the assumption of added sugars, which the image doesn't make any specifications about; a lot of ingredients used in pasta sauces, for example, are going to have natural sugars already.

I just take issue with the misleading image, which would have you believe that a cup of Yoplait is 45% sugar, even though you can read the label and do the math, yourself. Don't get me wrong, it's still a lot of sugar, but not "nearly half the product" levels.

  • Kinda misrepresentative using granulated sugar. Not all sugar is the same, nor does it have the same effect in your body.

  • Just to be pedantic, it's not that the coating, itself, has any color; it's usually clear, actually. The color shift is caused by the glass and the coating having different refractive indexes, causing the light to split up slightly as it reflects off the lens. Kinda like an oil slick on the street reflecting bright greens and purples that aren't actually there.

  • I think you can't see anything recent, only posts a year or older until you log in.

  • Government entities generally follow the principle of "We go where the people go". If the majority of people are using Twitter and YouTube and Facebook, then that's where the government bodies will host their accounts. You'd need a way to ensure that their message will reach their audience before you can even begin getting them onboard with the process of creating and setting up a whole new social platform. And that's going to be the hardest part to sell, since Mastodon is still among the least-used platforms available. Either show up with the critical mass needed to ensure that they've got an established user base, or show a plan to reach that point.

  • Brand new account, shilling for Rumble, under the guise of free speech (which Rumble does not offer). Hmm, really paints a picture.

Where'd you get banned from, and what did you say to get banned? C'mon, just tell the story you're clearly wanting to tell.

  • What are you talking about? Vigilante YouTubers have notoriously been a detriment to police investigations because of how rarely they actually cooperate with law enforcement.

  • I was sitting at the bus stop one day, heading into work. As I'm sitting on the bench, with headphones in, some guy stands up and waves at me to get my attention. I've seen him before; he's usually at the bus stop at the same time as I am on most days, but we've never talked until now. I take out my earbuds, and he points at the ground behind me and says with a smile on his face "Are you gonna finish that?"

I look back where he's pointing, and there's a dirty shoe on the ground behind me. The joke didn't quite land, but just to be polite I said "Haha, it's all yours". He takes a step over toward the shoe and gently nudges it with his foot, and then lets out an "Oh fuck". I turn to look at the shoe again, and that's when I realize that it's not empty. There's a whole severed foot in the shoe, with flies and maggots starting to make a home in the stump.

We called the cops who came out, taped off the bus stop and took down our statements, and then I've never heard anything else about the situation since then. I never found a news story about the foot, no follow-up from the PD about it, nothing. The bus stop was open the next day. Never saw that guy at the bus stop again after that, either; no clue if he was involved in the foot situation or if it just shook him so hard that he changed his route to work.
