Check out the makemkv forums on drive advice. The gui makemkv should work as well, not so much anything relying on the command line tools (arm ripper, etc).
Handbrake is encoding software that works pretty well and can encode straight from disc.
VLC can also do it.
I have personally started dd'ing to iso then encoding the main feature from that for my server, and saving the iso separately just in case I really want to play those dumb dvd extra features and fbi warnings.
Ripping can be a pain, there's all kinds of encryption hoops to jump through, and I have come across a few dvds that I just couldn't rip no matter what I tried.

Yeah, that's one thing that sucks about union jobs. On the other hand, I'm no longer at a union job and can break/lunch whenever I want, but my boss can make unrealistic expectations and I have no way to argue if I can't get another manager in the line to back me up. My current workplace is very quickly turning into a shittty place to work since there isn't a union to push back.
The majority of PhDs I work with (we do lab bench-level work) make work suck because they think they know more/better about the work we do and will not listen to anyone. Probably some ego thing or trying to justify their choice. A great litmus test is finding out what they think of grad school, if they say they hated it, they're usually pretty chill. If they liked it or indifferent then they'll usually be a pain.

I work in a place where I'm in nearly the last group to work on a project, which are usually 9 months to 15 months long, and we don't know who in our group will be working on a specific project until a step or two before it gets to us. Some managers loop in all groups when they start planning a project
I usually filter those straight to trash and get a talking to for not being in the loop 6 months later. Luckily its a 1 in 8 chance that I'll be on that project.
This is why I don't understand the rifles. What's the point if a normal phaser can atomize someone? Do you need to blow a hole in the hull behind them as well?
There doesn't seem to be a limitation to the normal phaser, like you've got two kill shots or 10 stuns then you need to charge. Why a bulky scary gun? Just for looking serious to the borg?
Are you sure you want every single thing you do on one device to be shared and saved on another? Are you SURE you want that? Because I'm not. It's not even a matter of doing fishy stuff or not, it's a matter of having control over where your information is stored
Exactly my opinion, if I want something accessible from a different device through the cloud I'll be the one to put it there. I'll decide which folders to sync, which files to upload. 99% of my data is crap that I don't want synced, half of that is probably not anything I even want on that device in the first place.
What really gets me is that the things I really really don't ever want to lose, I don't ever want any cloud provider to have access to without it being encrypted.
I agree their bandplan is pretty restricty, but it's also not law. It's more for playing nice with each other. Keep high power up here so it doesn't wipe out the people playing with low power, digital here so they don't get overrun by voice, etc. You wouldn't have any idea you're stepping on someone sending Morse if you're on FM. So there's reason for it.
And yeah, with line of sight radios, nobody gives two shits 20 miles from civilization in the woods.

True, it helps to ensure nothing illegal is going on and enforce keeping commercial interests out. It's a self regulating space, one of the only cases I know of that tends to work due to there being no monetary interests allowed. The point is to communicate information, not hide it.

False. This is for something like a non-profit wanting to use radios for their operations, they should be steered toward another service like gmrs, FRS, murs, etc. instead of amateur radio.
