  • I thought the entire SNL50 shit was kinda gross when watching a few segments of it. Every skit (especially the adam sandler song), had references to "Lauren's" horrible work ethic and how much of a psychological shit storm working on that show is.

    • Multiple references to Norm Mcdonald being fired for speaking out about OJ
    • the loss of members (some from drug use because of the industry and the show they're now continuing to promote).
    • turmoil and treatment of the staff and writers
    • obvious racial bias, especially for the weekend update teams in the past

Like it just kept going on and on with little jokes telling how much of a crap place it is, then everyone smiles and says, "Thank you Lauren!!" I honestly doubt if George Carlin was alive, that they would've asked him to come back and host (he was the first host).

If this would've been the last show, like they all decided to hang up the towel. Then sure, treat it like graduating from a crappy ass highschool you're just so thrilled to be out of, you can enjoy the last day. But all the appearances and references just reminded me of how shitty SNL has really been over the decades. Sure some great writers and performers, but those have been squeezed and mutilated out of creative individuals for decades for our entertainment.

I really have nothing to say about the "outrage from conservatives" lol, that just feels like clickbait for every side.

  • how the fuck are we near 10 years later and I'm just now seeing what should've been the DNC's campaign motto from the start? People, politicians, and pundits can argue about "flavors of fascism" till the cows come home, but the hatred is plain for anyone to see.

  • She was a singer who got famous when she was featured on Kid Rock's song Picture.

  • Are acquaintances allowed to the butt party?

  • Just for anyone reading along and thinking it's safe, there are huge caveats that people are leaving out which is a disservice to our fellow lemmers (lemmyers? Lemmiets? Lemlets?).

    • Older wastewater systems and even some newer regulated and "up to code" systems do not factor in wipes. They are designed with human waste and toiletpaper ONLY.
    • Wipe manufacturers categorize and regulate themselves for "flushable".
    • You'll be hard pressed to find anything "Scientific" unless it comes from BIGWIPES tm.

Unless you've paid an engineer and state institutions to design and approve a new system which you've installed that takes into account the difference in "wipes materials" (of which all those materials need to be regulated as well, state coding approval for all steps of the manufacturing and QA), you're never going to find any official/professional who would legally make themselves liable for the efficacy of that system by saying "flush wipes".

Beyond that, go dig up and open your septic tank lid. Every single one I've exposed has wipes in it. "But they used the wrong wipes", yeah... but you can't use the wrong toilet paper. No one is going to say use wipes because they know the result will be people using shitty wipes eventually (or the manufacturer changes its product).

Flushable doesn't mean it's biodegradable. Biodegradable doesn't mean it's meant to break down in a septic tank. Even it breaks down is a huge connotation on time/material and if it's even processable or just sits there till it has to get pumped, meaning more expensive pumps, more often (your septic tank just becomes a "big wipes bin" that you have to pay to have removed).

I mean the whole "Septic Tank" debate itself is fucking hilarious. You're just saying "it's safe!", how many gallons is the tank rated for? How many occupants are using the system? Is there any type of effluent filter or pump? What kind of drop do your pipes have? How many wipes are you using per flush? It's such a ridiculous thing to just hand wave, sure you flush your shit and someone said, "go ahead! (extra pump$ for me!)". Drop your scientific shit articles (well it's about poop and flushing after all), I need something to read on the shitter anyways.

  • no no, they need to use flush-able wipes and FLUSH EVERY SINGLE ONE DOWN.

  • Holy christ on a pogo stick, I had no idea on the population stats for mormon's. We really are a stupid species lol. I had a good neighborhood friend growing up who's family was mormon, didn't persay have anything against the religion then but later found out about all the racists connotations and how members are treated. If anyone wants to learn more there's a good Ex mormon vid going over the southpark mormon episode and the religion etc.

  • @JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml commented above with a good experience of why it's a crappy idea (I was thinking a randomzier would be good too.

I just clicked the first option it showed, which (for me) was a non-English instance. The second option was that LGBT-focused instance that defederated with lemmy.world a few months ago. Of course I didn’t know anything about either community so I just picked randomly.

I could see that happening a lot. I've messed with other randomizing systems and sometimes you forget how many niche or non matching picks can pop up when you really look at it. Even a 10% match with language barriers wouldn't be good for a reliable system of placement.

I also don't like the "what harry potter house" do you belong to quiz stuff or anything that asks to crawl or input your data (no thank you). Definitely more complicated than I thought.

  • I question that because I remembered reading articles that had discussions with the photographer from the before times. Alas, the internet is dead and every search result for Eugeny Hramenkov is either copy/pasted AI mouth gargle or articles talking about how "Elon Musk used the meme!!" (fucking christ I wouldn't put it past the dude that all these sites are his own promotional shit). It's so completely sad to have had the internet information age for just a small hopeful glimpse before it all came completely crumbling down.

  • You know, I had the shitty thought that at least back before chat communication, a robber baron (or it's equal kind) had to actually hire thugs and henchmen to cause local chaos. Now it's just some tech oligarch with some bots or a paid anonymous service causing disruption.

We really got fucked over on this one. I'm really not sure how America pulls itself out of this one with the state of education and political polarization. The federal part of our government definitely isn't offering up any solutions.

  • I live in an area where there is a monopoly of power supply by one of the worse polluters in American history, in a small area within a county there's an existing co-op power company that was basically grandfathered in because it's been in existence for so long while no other competitors are allowed in the area.

That co-op when I lived in the area was about half the cost of the monopoly company, a relative gets actually paid to be a member because they received their fathers account when he passed away and extra funds are distributed among all the members based on how long they've been with them (a little weird, but at least better than shareholders getting the profit).

You are absolutely right that the electric companies as a whole have failed, they've been allowed to amass too much influence and coverage while squashing any kind of competition. Why electrical needs aren't considered a national resource is mind baffling to me. Our country and citizens way of life would literally grind to a halt without it.

  • couple of things to note:

    1. Not every balcony is southern facing
    2. Most older European homes don't have A/C yet, so electrical costs are more during the winter months (that trend will change though I imagine)
    3. I think the numbers @Valmond@lemmy.world was asking about involved power output, that of course depends on the size of your array, daily/monthly/yearly differences in weather, and all sorts of little nuances that's hard to say without averaging out years worth of data.
  • Eh, I would argue you're only using the servers to access the content creators data. Youtube is the interface, algorithm, advertisement, comments, etc. If it's just the creators data being accessed with no additional contribution from youtube then I would just treat it as any ol' host server.

  • lol I don't think you're the target demographic if you can't imagine any scenario of this having a good purpose to exist. It's apparently rated by the Department of Defense, definitely has some applications people are interested in. Hell, you could recoup costs on harddrive failures alone over your child's lifetime, just need a reader. Would be a pretty neat present to give someone as well filled like a photo album with personal media/ favorite games/ music/ whatever you want backed up for your kids. People spend a lot of money on multiple backup options so this is just another ace in your deck along with other safeguards.

  • I honestly read it both ways. I was confused and looked at your further comments for clarity but people before me didn't have that luxury. What is a Los Angelenos? To a progressive it means anyone residing in the city limits (or once did), to a right-wing definition it would be the registered approved-citizens (blah blah).

This article also centers around the premise of the protests, so by saying "they don't need this right now", it seems you're demeaning the protests and not the ICE actions which have been on-going. It's apparent after reading more, but your first comment wasn't a clear, concise, and easily communicated premise or else you wouldn't see all of the confusion obviously

  • Am I still missing something? This is posted on the instance of .world, wtf are we talking about .ml and politics for? If your instance filters your comments on other instances than that's concerning and something I didn't know.

edit: removed the sarcasm in the hopes someone actually responds to what the problem is.

  • I've basically only ran into 90% left wing, sporadic sprinklings of conservative, tankie, liberal, other. "A lot of them" is pulling extra weight here.

  • I really need someone to explain all the random marxist leninists bogey-man bigotry that happens on this site at some point. Like this is a completely weird-o comment, about a political ideology that's effecting a word filter for possible rascism? and on .world people still label it marxist?!

I'm aware there is deep historical connotations which I haven't spent years researching so I try not to defend or participate but it feels like since people push back against "instance hating", we've gotta pour on any political hatred we could possibly see in the shadows. I'm just gonna assume this is another bad faith comment striking up fear and hatred till I learn otherwise.
