  • We had maybe 3 small groups come by. Very young kids with parents. For our kids, we went to a downtown event where businesses handed out candy. I liked that it was pretty dense with costumes and a down/back loop so we got to see lots of costumes and run into other families we knew. It's definitely changed and moved away from neighborhoods but there's also a feedback loop. Fewer kids, fewer houses passing out candy, fewer kids. Now I have to figure out what to do with 95% of a Costco candy bag

  • I kind of feel bad for her. She genuinely does seem to be spiraling

  • I bet some people with both of those things feel bad, being cursed with empathy and long-term ideals

  • I want to know if the MRI was ordered before or after the "very hard" cognitive test..my grandfather's dementia was diagnosed as due to multiple infarctions and he lived a long time in memory care. Get the 25th ready

  • I used to also... I used to. Looking forward to rolling a wizard when I get to the retirement home

  • I mean, go ahead? The rat fuckery of the last "primary" has a lot to do with our current administration. I think blame for that rests squarely on Biden and that she would've been a fine president. That said, I'm not sure I'd vote for her in a primary, so I'd much rather she not be anointed by the DNC or major PACs before a fair primary

  • I don't know, the line between malice and stupidity has become so blurred with these folks - like some really didnt know what they were voting for but that's only because they didn't want to either out of weakness or assholishness. I never really grasped Malicious Stupidity before, nor how many of us were in its throes.

  • I get this take and am in the same boat. The thing though is that the people who disapprove with trump is about the same as the number that "strongly disapprove" of trump. We have no more loathing to give.

Righting the ship will require breaking through to the disconnected and mildly red.

And the WH destruction is a) not a traditionally partisan issue, b) strongly symbolic, and c) a powerful visual.

So is it the worst thing he's doing? Not by a mile. Will I be happy if it wakes people up? Vehemently.

Hey, they got Capone on tax fraud

  • There are a couple issues the left-of-center crowd have pushed that would help everyone's wages: Higher minimum wage would raise wages beyond those at the minimum. Universal healthcare would allow workers to be less tied to their current jobs (and enable more entrepreneurship Anti corruption measures and progressive taxation aren't quite as popular among mainstream Dems, but would go a long way as well. There's a lot of work to do and the longer this shotshow goes on, the harder it will be later, as you say. America is losing so much expertise and power to this fascist garbage

  • Good. The demolition is disgusting, and apparently illegal. If legal efforts don't lan out, the couple can send their son, Jason, to scare the courts

  • Won't the next pres nominally be sworn in on Jan 2029? So as long as Trump keeps a pulse, he'll be pres in 2028. F bannon, but that's a dumb headline

  • I think Chenoweth specifically cited 3.5% as Sustained protest, rather than a single day effort. A big part of these spread out protests is building groundswell, showing we're not alone, and meeting like minded patriots to coordinate future action. Even if it were 20 M today, if they came out for two hours and went home, I don't expect the gov to just magically revert to a constitutional republic. Plenty of work ahead

  • Some sane-voting republicans, a bunch of not, and fetterman

  • Wish she wouldn't. As someone on the opposite side of the country, I'd prefer Plattner beats Collins

  • They'll time it for 2026 if they're ready. They can't let Dems have an ounce of power to preserve democracy

  • "meh" And focus on making things better

  • Didn't Hochul's endorsement not influence his support at all? I feel like mamdani won't get any benefit from their endorsements, but also that elected Dems are going to take a hit for their silence

  • Sure, why not

  • Trump won like 60-40, assuming that's representative of the population, a state that's 60% Republican will have 87.5% Republican representation in the house
