  • I agree, but also I think there’s a line between “kiddo getting excited or having a hard time in a public space” vs. “this kid is being neglected by their parents in favor of phones, and/or not taught general manners and human-to-human respect” because their parents are also inconsiderate of other people.

    A child having a meltdown in a grocery store, or bouncing around a park or making excited commentary at a movie theater I can easily forgive. Ignoring and letting a child run off unattended in a restaurant where a server can trip and get hurt is a problem. A kid getting antsy happens, but you also need to let them know why they should be mindful in certain environments.

    That said, there needs to be more openly kid-friendly spaces in the US, since they need free space to let off energy and develop their minds freely.

  • I’m sorry you had that experience.

    For some reason some Linux users are strict and preachy about it instead of treating it like a piece of software/environment just like any other.

    Aside from that, it’s just good practice to be kind to others and explain things to new (and not new) users in a reasonable way.

    Hopefully you find a solution that works for you (for whatever OS you choose).

    ETA: Lacey Chabert, as she’s exclusively in Hallmark-type slop now. It’s concerning.

  • Yeah this is a TL;DR: Dude is a - as my generation calls them - massive fuckboy.

    Longer version:

    He strung you along and quite frankly, I’m willing to bet a lot of him getting in his feelings was hypocrisy and ego, even if it’s subconscious. These breakdowns were likely him rationalizing to himself about why he couldn’t commit, instead of acknowledging and stating directly that he does not want to date you and risk losing access to your attention.

    “Let’s still be friends” is fuckboy code for “I still like the attention you gave me and want to have you around on the back burner for when I’m bored.” Fuckboys want options and benefits without commitment. They don’t do clear no-strings-attached because they like the easy boyfriend treatment.

    You cannot love someone out of being a fuckboy. Nothing you do or don’t do will affect or change how a fuckboy treats you.

    It sounds trite, but when someone is worth your time they make it very clear. You deserve someone whose interest you never question. If nothing else, you deserve peace of mind. Contact with this guy is costing you your peace of mind.

    “All” is a lot of US politics so keep that in mind when venturing away from your subscribed feed. You will frequently see multiple of the same posts in your feed - this isn’t spam, it’s posted to different communities and often different instances, since communities can have the same name but be on different servers.

  • That’s fair.

    I’m of the worldview that while technically there is no “meaning,” doesn’t mean there’s no effect (even if it’s infinitesimal). Just because there’s no purpose in pushing a ball across a table, it still moves when you touch it.

    It also places, in philosophical framing, that humans are the creators and arbiters of the concept of our own “meaning.” The fact that we ask of it, and in some cases find there is no such thing from external forces, suggests that it comes from us. However you go from there is the beauty of the notion.

  • Meaning: try to do no harm, give love where I can, and hopefully leave the world a little better where I touched upon.

    Why I keep living (bit of a TW):

    My own death doesn’t really bother me, but the logic follows that one’s passing radiates pain outwards to those who are still alive. So, to minimize pain to my loved ones, especially my animals who wouldn’t know why I was gone.

    Also experiencing video games.
