    That’s it. No infodumping, no explaining the technicalities, just tell them “just pick one, it’s basically like a username” and worry about it only if they want to learn about the underside of it.

    We don’t “explain” email to people - they just pick a site, sign up, and move on.

    Working in tech I learned to only explain the workings of something if they ask since most users are perfectly fine on a surface level and can intuit more than we credit them for once they know the basic gist.

  • Maybe? The port setups work fine on the home router (such as accessing Steam link/Sunshine from a TV) but because it’s behind the mandatory AT&T modem it causes some nasty configuration headaches for external access.

  • This may sound crazy but do you have an AT&T router?

    I have not been able to solve it myself yet unfortunately but having two routers has made it impossible for me to use Tailscale/Wireguard/ZeroTier etc. in much the same way as you’re describing.

    The devices “see” each other but can’t connect no matter what configuration I follow, what firewall settings I tweak, nothing. I think there’s a pass through problem where UPnP is in conflict.

    Sorry I don’t have an answer but I promise you’re not alone in your frustration.

The remotes barely respond and they’re bogged down with ad-riddled garbage to the point I had to set up a parental lock just so I wasn’t force-fed trashy, outdated reality TV at 300 decibels when I power the damn thing on. Or worse, when the power goes out and it decides to blast at 3 AM. Unfortunately I didn’t make the choice to buy this thing.

    Their phones are also locked down proprietary horse arse. I don’t understand the people who repeatedly pick the brand, but oh well.

    Liking the destination or specific people you’re with really has to outweigh the crowds, the effort and the cost to be remotely worth it and that’s exceedingly rare.

    Occasional game nights/potlucks with friends and family though can be nice.
