Engineer. Retro console modder. Pen and watch enthusiast.

  • Yeah, I remember when I got my Tudor asking about the Explorer (years prior to this experience), and they told me there was a 5 year wait list. They didn't even have one for display. I looked forward to trying one on for years. It was such a let down. The Milgauss is really cool. Why that reference number specifically? Not a fan of the green sapphire?

  • You want to be watch friends? You like Seiko mods?

  • This is true. You know, for a long time I thought i really wanted an Explorer 36mm. Tried one on, and it did absolutely nothing for me. So I tried the 39mm. Same thing, I was completely uninspired. Plus, the salesman was the worst I've ever dealt with. Completely uninterested in chatting, or talking up the merchandise. Probably because they don't have to. People buy them just because it's Rolex. That very same day, I bought a Breitling instead. They were so friendly, they brought us champagne and fresh fruit. We chatted around an hour. And, they threw in some extra hats and an extra strap.

    I'll never buy a Rolex.

  • As someone who has never done LSD, but loves watching weird shit... I recommend checking out Aze Alter's videos on the Capitol of Conformity. I think it starts with "Eyes for Sale" but don't quote me. Might be a good time!

  • In real life, I know all couple people who are also interested in watches, but mostly nobody wears a watch at all anymore, let alone is interested in them as a hobby.

Also, fountain pens. I love pens. I love finding them at antique stores and restoring them. There's a little bit of a community here, not like there was on reddit though.

Calculators. I think I'm alone there. Vintage TI, HP, and modern Casio.

    Staplers. Especially Ace.

As for games, probably Battlezone II. Such fun multi-player, now I have nobody to play with. So many good mods, and I can't get any of them to work in Mint. One reason I still have an XP machine.

  • Well, that's super lame! I wish there was a good alternative. I'll probably stick with it as long as ReVanced works.

  • I've gotten that occasionally, it usually fixes with a refresh. Was it persistent for you?

  • Oh man, it's delightful. Last October, I woke up and Copilot had installed on my computer. That day, I tried three distros and landed on Mint. Haven't looked back since. It's on all my computers now. Except my XP era Dell Dimension, which is for XP obviously. But yeah, I have almost all of my Windows games running now, except Mechwarrior 3 and Battlezone II. But I guess that's what the old Dimension is for! The hardest thing was WoW for my wife (neither of us play, her friends forced it upon us). Steam games work pretty much out of the box. I think I had to change which version of Proton I use for 7 Days to Die, but that was it.

The Eleganse theme, with a touch of transparency in the terminal is near perfection to my semi-fancy minimalist tastes. The most ricing I've done to it is spending two hours finding the perfect menu icon, but you can do so much more.

  • I read that as John Travolta in Battlefield Earth angrily asking Barry Pepper if he wanted to eat a rat.

    DO YOU WANT LUNCH?!

  • A grapefruit, on the other hand...

  • The stressful part is how many live near me. When they start listing off streets I know, there's a severe pucker factor.

  • Listen to sovereign citizens lose in court and play New Vegas

  • I have a copy of Popular Science from May of 1958, and they talk about nuking the moon twice, then building a missile base on it. That seems way more realistic.

  • I think i have more Laserdiscs than Blu-rays

  • I stopped using my hdmi adapter because it wasn't looking as good as the component video. You got the 1920 to work? What version of OPL do you have? I might have to try it again!

  • Now that you mention it, I've had mixed results forcing resolutions through OPL. But the factory ones you do with button combos always work great.

  • Oh, you can still get storage on the slim. I just did Gusse's IDE resurrector on mine, but there is a better version out there now with much larger SD card support.

  • I played through Black for the first time this year on my old Fat with a sata hdd. How great was that game? It felt a generation ahead of its time, especially using the higher res display mode and the component video.

If you don't already have a good controller solution, I highly recommend the Brook Wingman. I'm using mine with a Dual Shock 3 for the analog buttons (gotta have them for Ace Combat), but it supports so many controllers.

  • My dad commuted 2.5 hours each way my entire childhood. All through the 90's. It wasn't until DSL got to my parent's area in the 2010s and I was out of college that he could work a hybrid schedule. I couldn't do it. I work 30min away, hybrid 2/5 of the time. It's still more time than I want to soend in the car.
