  • I haven't been an avid user of generative AI when it was first released and decided against using it at all lately. I tried to use it in niche projects and was completely unreliable. Its tone of speech is bland and the way it acts as a friend feels disturbing to me. Plus the environmental destruction it is causing on such a large scale is honestly depressing to me.

    Isn't that exactly the answer you are looking for?

    100 mb Ethernet can be run over cat 5e, Cat 6, etc. You can even have Ethernet frames running over coax. (Not just the original standard which was coax but there are modern bridges for using cable TV coax in your house to reach rooms where you can't pull cat5.)

  • Dahua must have improved their software. I was trying every brand of camera about 8 years ago when I setup my system. The first Dahua I bought required their ActiveX component for Internet Explorer to see the camera output from their web interface!

    I agree that Dahua looked better but at the time their web interface was so bad I kept the Hikvisions.

  • Dahua and Hikvision have great cameras but of course you shouldn't trust them. Block them at the firewall. I bought mine a few years ago and preferred Hikvision for its better built in webserver for initial configuration.

    On the hosting side you run Frigate, Zoneminder or BlueIris (Windows) to control the cameras and record their streams.

    .001% of $33M from the Vanguard Index means you lose .001% of the $50k in your 401k which holds Vanguard.

  • They rebalance continuously. If they waited until the end of the month it would be billions that would be impossible to rebalance without distorting the trades they're trying to execute.

    Even if they waited it wouldn't matter .001% of $1 billion a month is the same as .001% of $333m daily.

  • Hft aren't just taking from day traders. They profit from all transactions. Your 401k is bled a fraction of a percent every day by hfts that take a cut before the Index fund or Mutual fund makes its daily rebalance.

  • Feynman actually did try to explain

    Not in that particular interview which was very annoying. Feynman knew magnetism better than most people on the planet and instead of explaining it, he went off on the reporter for a badly phrased question.

    He could have explained that magnetism and the electric field are the exact same thing seen from different reference frames. Instead he spent 5 minutes on why the reporter's question was stupid.

  • Now if you purchased something, then got the ads afterwards and they counted it retroactively then they would be abusing it. I'm 99% sure they do that.

    That explains everything!

    No doubt their ads are monthly/quarterly purchases. So Google reports the end of month "conversions" when in reality it's ads shown during the month but happened after the sale.
