  • That is one gorgeous fuzzball. Damn. Look at that profile!

  • I get what you’re saying, but internal company communications (especially for publicly traded companies) still should be accessible to valid legal inquiries, otherwise there is absolutely no hope for any kind of accountability. Having IMs between end-users be off the record by default seems totally reasonable and good to me, but internal communications should not be deletable at all, let alone manually by executives. The US Government has record retention schedules, through which non-records (water-cooler talk or the digital equivalent) are kept private and real records are identified and preserved. This is the kind of thing that Congress needs to regulate for private companies. Google blatantly and actively deleted conversations they knew would be relevant to the case, that’s unacceptable.

  • Trump is a lame duck president on day one. You can interpret this one of two ways: he has no political capital and will be running on authoritarian fumes for his whole term, or his political capital is limitless because he can’t run again and has unshakable blind loyalty from nearly half the country. Since it’s Trump, the worst option is almost certainly correct. Trump will never run out of political capital.

  • It definitely feels like Star Trek, hilarious Star Trek. But like some other commenters said, it will help a lot if you finish the various live action series first. Lower Decks is chock full of fan service, so you don’t need to have watched everything, but many lines of dialogue will make more sense if you do.

The Strange New Worlds/Lower Decks crossover is peak hilarity. The fan service continues even in live action. Lower Decks was brilliant to cast voice actors who also do live action, because that crossover is a genuinely excellent episode of Star Trek.

I’m jealous that you get to see all this for the first time! Enjoy!

  • As an act of civil disobedience someone should remove the gender signs from every single bathroom at the capitol.

Also, grow up Mace. You're the weirdo for caring so much about where people shit.

  • Calling my supervisor a dirty little pussy is usually a no no, but in this case…

  • This is not the right place to advertise your investing app. This is gross.

Edit: also a pretty brash, reckless, and crappy use of an AI image generator. If your app is so great, couldn’t you afford to pay an artist?

  • Mark Zuckerberg and Nick Clegg are bad people. There is no ethical way to give militaries this kind of tool. They will use it to kill innocent people, while disingenuously touting its ‘ability’ to save lives.

If you still have any kind of Meta account or use any of their products, you are helping to legitimize them and give them more power. I’m tired of “it helps me buy junk in my neighborhood” or “but event invites!” excuses. Nope, they’re bad people, running a bad company, that causes real harm to real people every day. If you care at all about the health of society, you must stop giving them the ammunition they turn around and use against you. Stop. Using. Meta. Products.

  • Same, Syncthing is amazing. I use it with Mobius Sync on iOS and have it synching my keepass, Obsidian vault, photos, and a folder for random file transfers between devices. It’s so much better, faster, and more stable than all the most popular corporate cloud providers.

  • She is a master of language. I love her style.

  • I imagine CFPB is at the very top of the hit-list to get fully doge’d. Because fuck consumers, why would they ever need protection from anti-union, discriminatory billionaire oligarchs like Musk?

  • The only legitimate use I can think of for AI in podcasting might be for realtime translations so people who don’t speak the language of the podcaster can still listen. Even that makes me feel weird, but I think it could be done ethically-ish. Same deal for voice-cloning, I think that would be super-useful for realtime translations, so listeners still kinda hear the host’s voice, even translated. But every other use I can think of is ripe for abuse and won’t result in quality content.

  • I'm saying since 59% of white men voted for Trump, when you walk by a random dude on the street there's around a 1 in 2 chance that that random dude voted against you being a full person. Since that percentage is so high, it's not unreasonable for women to swear off all men until after a serious reckoning.

It was just a silly and imprecise thought experiment to make tangible some distressing statistics about what millions of men think about women.

  • Makes a lot of sense. Think about it this way: there’s a slightly better than 50 percent chance that the random dude you walked past on the street voluntarily chose to vote against your most basic rights as a person. Why the fuck would you go near them again, let alone let them touch you without some serious national reconciliation?

  • Two months without genocide is better than genocide. There’s no moral or humane reason not to exert every ounce of possible influence to stop this even if it ends up being temporary. I don’t think Biden has any idea how poorly history will judge him for his lack of action. He has the power in this relationship. And it’s infuriating that he has consistently refused to use it.

And for an example of how unfair the world is: Trump will probably not be judged poorly, even when he inevitably makes things worse, because Trump doesn’t get the blame for the bad things he does, he gets rewarded. It’s not fair, it’s not right, but not much is these days.

  • That’s my cat’s “um, kindly get this the fuck off of me, who do you think you are?” face.

  • This is exactly the kind of crap I’m talking about. You are literally the first and only person who has ever called me right wing, because I objectively and genuinely hold far left beliefs, and I always have. You don’t know me, and since you obviously don’t want to engage in a good faith conversation, your trolling means nothing to me.

  • I didn’t see what you were responding to, but I’m very close to doing this. Yesterday I unsubbed from just about all the .ml communities I was subbed to. They’re impossible to talk to and have gotten incredibly nasty. They just start indignantly name-calling immediately, there’s no real engagement anymore. I consider myself to be extremely left wing, but I also live in the real world. They are insufferable.
