    I don't want to bother you about that or anything, but Microsoft (who owns GitHub) is a company that's actively hostile towards open source devs and is actively using GitHub to scrape insane amounts of training data for their own AI models without regard for consent.

    Have you considered moving to an alternative platform? Codeberg for example is quite good, all their code is open source and self hostable and the interface is quite easy to understand for someone, who is used to GitHub. It's also managed by a nonprofit and it's pretty easy to transfer you repo from GitHub to there.

  • Yeah, don't get me wrong, this is an insane law. It makes no sense and it is utterly ridiculous and dystopian.

    I am just saying, that it is still manageable to continue, we shouldn't give up. We should continue to fight against this law, but we can also realistically keep distributing our software regardless of this law.

    I think, the age thing only has to be implemented by the operating system, not by every piece if software. We as app developers can then choose to use an API to age restrict our apps, if we want to.

    We just have to make sure our app isn't recognized as an operating system in itself.

    It's not at all impossible, it just has to be implemented.

  • No, you're just wrong. The law just says, there needs to be a local API, that apps can use to ask, what of 4 age brackets the user is in. That's basically it. There is nothing about some online server that needs to hold that data.

    I think the most effective form of resistance is relationships and new local organisations and new structures that resist the forces of the state and of capitalism.

  • Yeah, I don't think it's reasonable to give up in the face of it.

    You should make it as hard as possible for them to track you, use private OpenSource software, advocate for it and don't be afraid if direct action, like destroying these cameras. The more people that do it, the harder it will be for them to do something about it.

    But also, am I the only one surprised, that Gavin Newsom of all people did this? The guy that had Steve Bannon on his podcast just to congratulate him on his strategy? The guy that he would definetly veto the idea of his own party to introduce a minor wealth tax?

    Perhaps this is an incincere attempt at coasting of Mamdanis polulartiy? In any case, I will continue to despise the guy, because I refuse to believe that this decision was based on any real beliefs on his part.

  • I understand, but wouldn't the same problem occur, if the server for the website you download your software from or the server for your package manager would be compromised? Even if you would buy your software physically on a CD, there would be a chance someone has messed with the content on a CD.

    So I don't really see this as a flaw unique to browsers. Am I wrong?

  • This comment shows that you know less about computers, than you may think. You can definetly make end to end encryption work using a Website. JavaScript runs client side. So as long as you trust the encryption algorithm (which in elements case you definetly can, because it is OSS), the encryption is safe and your unencrypted data never leaves the device.

  • I don't really think she is trying to do the right thing. She was Trumps biggest ally for YEARS while he did some of the worst things, you could think of and she most likely knew about the Epstein stuff way before this and actively covered it up. She doesn't believe in anything except her own power.

    I think, the reason she is doing this is because she recognized that Trump is a sinking ship and she is trying to take advantage of that for her own gain. Maybey she wants to run for president in the future or at least be the loyal companion of one. If she were to continue defending Trump for everything his admin does, she would sink with him, so she tries to get out.

  • I would suggest just downloading Godot and following a few tutorials. That's how I got started anyways (well, with Unity but Godot wasn't half as good back then as it is today).

    I would suggest watching the Godot Tutorials from Brackeys, because they are excellent: You could start with this one. If you want some more tutorials, maybey have a look at Gdquest (they also have a YouTube channel linked on their website, which is really good).

    And most important of all, just try to not take it too seriously. Have some fun! Your games won't be good for a while, and that's OK, because everyone starts out this way. But if you really enjoy the process and stick to it, I am certain that you will create amazing things! And if you find out, that you don't like it, that's totally OK too, then you can just keep looking for other hobbies, because there are so many cool things to do in the world.
