  • Lemmy needs better sort options. Certain communities get a ton more posts than other communities, so their posts wind up being a huge percentage of the front page.

Lemmy needs a hot+diverse sort option that weights against posts in a community that already has a lot of posts on the the front page of hot.

I don't want to block those communities, i just want to see other topics too

  • Inputting newer weather condition data is different than changing the model. The model is the machine that does the computing, the weather data is just inputting variables. As an analogy it's like a computer - the hardware itself doesn't change, but if you do different clicks and typing input then the computer will output different things on screen. The ai model itself only changes when you train it differently.

  • Download a zillion movies and whole tv series (in highly compressed versions), a zillion music albums and playlists, the 25 GB downloadable version of Wikipedia, a ton of emulators and game roms, and a bunch of apps covering everything i might wanna do like music creation software.

  • When i was younger i totally would've been into an ai girlfriend

  • Agreed. There were a couple of scenes where he was kinda whiney, but overall i think he's a very compelling character who i enjoyed watching

  • I don't know what you're referring to. Most people love conveniences and automation. There are extremely few cases i can think of where people choose the hard way instead of the easy way when the results are the same.

Name some specific examples of what you're talking about

  • Hm ok yeah, that seems quite scary sounding so that i would strongly hesitate before clicking on "discard ALL changes". Still, I wonder if a second confirmation dialog with more information is warranted for a command that's so destructive.

  • I don't know anything about programming, i came here from /all, but it seems to me that a command that's this permanently destructive warrants a second confirmation dialog message reminding the user that the files will be permanently deleted and not undoable

  • And i would guess that most geologists wind up having to do nothing but very boring repetitive side quests just to gather enough resources to keep their character alive

  • That's one interpretation, but the description i gave includes a much larger range than that

  • That's exactly what i was trying to say. I don't have the chance to make an impact on society at large, but i absolutely do make a very significant impact on the individual people in my personal circle, and that's extremely valuable.

  • Old enough to have a significant amount of gray hairs, but not so old that it's all gray

  • But that's awesome! Having simpler dreams means you can actually achieve them! That's so much better than having dreams of stardom that results in disappointment and wasted life opportunities for 99.99999% of those people.

And also, your dreams sound like very meaningful things that make a great life!

  • Maybe at your age. At my age almost all of the Something Great bells have rung. Don't get me wrong, there are still plenty of very meaningful things i can accomplish, and many important impacts i can make on individual people's lives, - but for me the possibility of doing something that has a broader impact on society is pretty much gone. But so what, the impact i can have on individual people's lives is still very valuable, and my own subjective experience of life is just as important as anyone else's! So i try to make my own experience of living as good as it can be!

  • That I never did Something Great™ with my life.

Didn't become a rock star, didn't cure cancer, didn't invent a world changing technology, didn't become a famous artist, etc.

I didn't know specifically what I was aiming to do, but for some reason I assumed that i would do something that made a big impact on the world. I was totally convinced of it. And it's not because my parents constantly told me that or anything. The closest i heard was a lot of "you have so much potential if you'd only apply yourself!" Ugh.

  • The only Asian standup comedian guy with long hair I know of is Sheng Wang, so i thought the pic was him when he was young. My bad
