  • The ISP wouldn't see your self hosted traffic. Not to mention many people don't encrypt it if it's on their own local network. And ISP tracking is becoming less successful with QUIC, Encrypted Client Hello, and DNS over HTTPS or DNS over TLS.

  • I disagree with most people saying it's not a problem. It's funny, because in the responses most people are saying the same thing. It's a bit of an echo chamber in general here. I do agree with most of the echos, but I also recognize it's an echo chamber. When I do disagree with an opinion, it is not often well recieved. It's also not as likely to be taken seriously since I am one of the few oppsoing it. This can cause more confirmation bias, and even fear mongering to some extent. Which I always find sensationalized headlines here absurd because the truth is absurd enough. We dont need to exaggerate details to make it worse, but unfortunately those headlines get more clicks.

    People are quick to comment on a headline without reading the article, as long as it supports something they already believe in. And even if something ends up not matching the headline, you get a response of "well I wouldn't be surprised if it really did happen" without any evidence. This is human nature, but I still think it's important to recognize.

  • I do expect it to change. I expect it to be standardized with zero knowledge proofs. If I am avle to communicate with you on a random internet forum from anywhere in the world using standardized protocols, we can get private and secure "I am 18+" verification. It may initially start with proving it in some form or another, but if done correctly you would essentialy have a private key that certifies you are over X age. The company would know nothing about you, other than you are not a child. I have extremely simplified it, but it is possible.

  • The goal isnt to herd every single cat. Just get the bulk of them. That's how existing age regulation works. Alcohol age limit doesn't stop underage drinking, but it does substantially reduce it. With that in mind, there are privacy respecting solutions that will do what needs to be done

  • Kids also get alcohol from their older siblings. It doesnt have to be 100% effective to still make a massive impact on children. Plus, kids these days could learn a thing or two about computers. Maybe byspassing restrictions will give them motivation to learn

But there are thousands of normal people on there making great content. They just don't appeal to the algorithm as much so you haven't heard of them. But they're out there

  • That is a different conversation. If we assume a legally trained AI strictly on data it was allowed to train on, they are saying the AI cannot hold copyright.

    I also don't see a loophole here, since it was denied anyway.

    yet. If AI can do anything well, I think it should be writing code, given the formulaic nature of code. We are NOT there yet. But it will one day, no doubt.

  • That's why zero trust itself is so important. The only way it can be guaranteed is to have an open standard that is zero trust, so nobody is able to abuse it and the lay person doesn't have to trust anyone. Not to mention if it is implemented correctly, there is no data to even trust them with, given there was zero knowledge of the end user. It would require a governing body to be competent enough to implement it, but I like to dream big

  • I am saying there is a blind spot for perpetrators in the Democratic party because those posts do not gain as much traction on left leaning social media platforms. That is to be expected, and I am not really trying to change anything. But this is not a feeling, I see it happen. I see things in the news about democrats, as a democrat myself, and recognize there is hardly any mention of it on here.

  • To be clear, I said Republicans are worse offenders. I am simply pointing out the blindspot for democrats doing the same thing.

    Second, I was avoiding any former elected officials, democratic candidates, and anything from more than a few years ago. I was strictly sharing a few recent active elected democtratic officials doing the same shit.

    Generally when it's a democrat, we are not defending it is the difference. Granted, the news stories don't gain as much traction on left biased social media platforms, but at least we aren't defending them and making them president.
