  • Not that the legality would necessarily be an excuse, but I was curious too so I checked. Kiedis is getting pretty old and has been around awhile, but it would have been illegal in Louisiana throughout his entire lifetime.

  • I think you can kind of stretch it to be true if you try real hard but it's stupid to blame TikTok for this. TikTok skews younger, and this is a cause that is popular with the younger generation, so yes TikTok will trend as more supportive of this cause and will reinforce those views via algorithm and the algorithm does not necessarily have to care if things are factual or not so popular things will not always be factual. It's a lot of words to not say anything useful, so she's basically one step away from shitposting on Lemmy right now.

    Her comments about not knowing the history are interesting to think about though, because I think she's mostly talking about the news coverage some of us grew up with. Remember that we used to think we could trust our news and there's been a lot of coverage on this historically. Most over around 30 have a pretty good memory of the coverage around 9/11 and the 'war on terror' and are pretty much done thinking about the conflict after finding out that the Palestinian government is ruled by Hamas and will at best say "I feel bad for the people who have to live in Palestine". It's even worse when you get to the 40s-50s range and have someone old enough to have watched the news when modern Palestine was kind of forming into it's current form in the 80s. Somewhere in between is anyone who at any point in time heard any coverage at all about the original charter Hamas was founded on, it's rough. Definitely didn't invent it and they weren't the only ones using the tactic, but for a lot of us, Hamas were also the first guys you heard about when you first learned the term 'Suicide Bombing' on the news too. I don't really want to see the numbers, but I do wonder who holds the record for the most suicide bombings they've publicly claimed responsibility for, we definitely at least knew who these guys were. Some people say you have to separate the people from their government and then the government from their past, but that statement resonates less and less depending on how old the person you're talking to is. Just an interesting retrospective. I still think the basis of the comment is kind of stupid, but it does bring to mind some interesting thoughts.

  • Can't believe no one at all is thinking about 'Become a Third String QB in the XFL'. There's nothing specifying that this is a one time transformation.

    Being an XFL QB of any level seems like it would require a general level of health and wellbeing... If you could assume that this would make you capable of being a QB with everything that would typically entail and if that power was constant where you were always capable of being a QB... You could be kind of immortal, healthy, and always in at least above average shape.

    Also imagining a world where all society has collapsed except the XFL, I'd read that book.

  • The profit margins are low because it's easy and cheap. There are a lot of places already doing this and they have real (mostly international) businesses dealing with medication from real pharmaceutical companies. Ask a trans person or a serious bodybuilder for recommendations.

  • We have generic tests for the intelligence of birds.

    Most famously used on Crows/Parrots, Seagulls are smarter than average and can solve some advanced puzzles, but they're mostly below Corvids or Parrots. We've also tested their memory, they only care about food and can remember places they've gotten food and even the faces of people who they've got food from year to year, but we don't think over too much longer periods.
