I may post/reply/boost in:🇧🇷 🇺🇸 🇪🇸 🇯🇵 🇳🇴(or close languages)

I also may boost posts I make with alts, but I'm mainly here so that should be rare.

  • Thanks for explaining the path!

I'm aware of it, but avoiding for the reason of learning manually, and also because, as an end user, I don't like any of the ActivityPub-compatible softwares they offer. Also the amount of troubleshooting I did for people that would press triangle¹ early on in Autoplugin for the PS Vita sure helped making me very wary of automated processes without understanding them.

¹Triangle made all homebrew plugins listed in Autoplugin get installed, including experimental and incompatible ones. Also been some ~7 years since the function got removed and I never used it myself, but the problem was so widespread I remember down to the key used for running it... 🥹

  • I'm around my 30's and I also struggle to think of examples not at least as old as me. e.e''

  • That's what I meant about horizontal attacks. Iirc that was the term used in the explanation that convinced me to consider a VPS. 😅

...though I still want stuff locally, so studying this type of network security is still in my roadmap.

  • Thanks!

About studying about operating systems and docker, I think I know what you mean. I had come across some info on docker already, and it sounded like a system image, as you'd get on a VM or with dd, or a disc ISO or disk ROM dump.

Will make sure to look further into it!

  • I'll be doing others' suggestions of going from the basics, to be sure whether I'm missing or not any knowledge. This earlier parts shouldn't require internet, but I'll ask once I get to the DNS part. Thanks. 😊

  • @grok what is a phone book?

  • @atheqtpie@piefed.blahaj.zone two things:

First, it needs an initial investment, but maybe buy a Raspberry Pi or some other single-board computer to put your site/sites on?

Second, in a post asking about self-hosting that I made, someone suggested the site https://linuxupskillchallenge.org/, and reading its "what is it about" page, I see the text from the attached image. Perhaps worth investigating.

  • Makes sense e.e"

    Thanks!

  • Noted. Thanks!

  • Checking here, Hollos still needs a site to use as relay, similar to Bluesky, so I'm guessing you'd need to either host the site on your machine, or to use a VPS. I need to study and test it further though.

    Anyways, here's the links:

  • Not quite the same thing, but maybe run a Hollos instance instead? Yet to test, but supposedly it runs on your phone by what they market.

Also seen two other minimalist projects implementing ActivityPub. Let me see if I can find them.

  • Dunno if it's related, but the instance seems to be having issues receiving federated contents from some instances for nearly 2 months now.

  • You sent the comment twice.

  • Linux was born out of manually making drivers to see how hardware works, which after putting enough together, Linus noticed he had a kernel.

Meanwhile, people pushing code they don't understand are more often than not breaking the programs they "help" with.

I'd suggest studying low level coding to at least be able to audit others' codes, including LLMs', let alone to publish comnputer-generated codes.

  • Going by experience, it helps greatly to block news communities, or at least the domains or users that have a predilection for sharing misery, fear, envy, and all the doom "goodness". Also requires being able to identify such places and people, but I'd imagine a small pain at the moment is much better than to have your filter polluted and grinding your gears slowly enough that when you get to have enough, you're at the verge of snapping. And if using RSS feeds, since those usually don't have custom feeds applied¹, Ublock Origin for hiding the whole post based on who posted or what site it links to helps too.

¹Lemmy has RSS feeds for any given user's feed btw.

  • I have, I just can't get myself motivated to actually write about it

The first step is the hardest of a journey. Push through the beginning, and you should get it going. 👌

  • Can't check if it is or at least seem legit rn, but going by the premise it is legit, I'd imagine there are better places to post it.

  • says linux is bad but uses the world-wide web 🤭

  • Bolsa Família is a government-run monetary aid, but irl it works as a dependency system, people on it never getting incentivized to leave. Feels like a way to pressure people on it into accepting the loss of privacy.

Also there appears to be a pretty big mass of the population that is utterly passive to abuses, so even without the pressure possibility, it's sadly unsurprising the state would feel bold enough to keep pushing.

By the way, students are forbidden to use cellphones in schools by law, the official reason being to focus on learning. But if memory serves me right, the law was passed around the time a lot of students were reporting with recordings teachers being ideological indoctrinators.

  • Teaching system most likely designed to be faulty, government is mainly a mix of communists and profiteers, and Brazil is seemingly a laboratory for all that is bad and is to be applied in the world. 1984-style monitoring doesn't seem too far-fetched imo.
