My cynical mind says they broke autocomplete to encourage voice to text which is a much more rich data mining avenue than text only. Think of what all information about yourself can be determined just from your voice, which passes through Google servers when you use their voice to text and they most definitely keep.
Lots of comments in here saying to just use Firefox, and they're entirely correct, but the one use case for articles like this I could think of is where you are forced to use Chrome at work but can still install extensions.
The only game I have sat still as the credits rolled absolutely dumbfounded for at least 30 minutes
