Migrating here (or maybe keeping both) from @ArcaneSlime@lemmy.ml

Will put an eternal curse on your enemies for a Cinemageddon invite.

  • Woof ok looks like I have some research to do, thanks! Hopefully I can find a handy youtube tut or stackoverflow on it, because that's about my level of expertise on "linux stuff I haven't done at least twice" haha.

  • I'm back! Thanks for the help! Booted off the usb and deleted my shame from fstab haha.

Though, I actually specifically don't want it to auto-mount, as dumb as that sounds. I just want it so that when I click "1.9tb encrypted drive" in dolphin it only asks for the luks pass but not root, currently I have to type the luks pass and then root pass every time.

Also for nmount in nnn, which can only mount stuff as a normal non-root user.

Idk why my internal secondary requires root while I can mount a flash drive or encrypted external ssd just fine without it.

  • Yes, and I could type my drive's pass, it just would hang up after 45s of not being able to find that drive (or whatever) and fail to boot.

BUT someone else posted "hey dummy boot off a usb and fix fstab," and that's what I did and I'm back to booting!

(OK I'm the one calling me a dummy lol they were very nice, I just can't believe I didn't think to do that in my panic haha)

Now I just need to figure out how to actually make the drive not require root, but also not auto mount, and still prompt for the luks pass lol.

Thank you for your help anyway!

  • Ayyyy why didn't I think of that?! Thank you!

Booted off a stick, deleted that line and saved, rebooted and we're back in action!

Would there possibly be any chance you could point me to the correct way to do what I'm trying to?

Basically I'm trying to make it so that when I click the drive to mount it, it still prompts me for the luks pass but not root.

Idk why it needs root, none of my externals do, you'd think it would require root for unknown externals, not the internal secondary!

  • Thirding fedora, seconding the Ubuntu hate. Specifying FedoraKDE, however.

  • That little spin move from the one in the back is so adorable lmao

  • You'd be surprised, people do indeed shoot coke or meth. They've also been known to use sprite when they didn't have water, which is actually crazier when you think about it.

  • Depends on your location. You at Wildwood? Lol

  • I believe he is making a joke regarding the practice of consuming drugs via intravenous injections, also commonly known as "shooting up." The precipice of the joke appears to be the expectation that when one "takes neither and shows up drunk", and the twist is that "rather than showing up drunk he's doing hard drugs such as heroin, cocaine, or even methamphetamine or other commonly shot drugs" wherein lies the humor. Though that is simply my interpretation, and perhaps the original poster will be so kind as to elucidate, we shall see.

  • LOL wearing condoms is copium now? Have fun with your STDs!

  • I mean, I understand where you're coming from, they absolutely shouldn't log IPs. BUT, if you're committing crimes or even doing legal things the government doesn't like, it would behoove you to put in the absolute bare minimum of OPSEC at least.

Like, some people know they have STDs and don't warn people and spread them, right? And while the spreader is obviously the problem there, some commonly accepted advice to the victim is "you should have worn a condom anyway." And they should have worn a condom to protect themselves (and also the spreader should be held liable.)

Like the previous example, anyone using any online service (for secrety things) should know to put a VPN condom on before they put their data inside that sexy, slutty server rack. And like how contraceptives were that knowledge needs to be spread.

  • They're just cats you can't blame them. At least they're not sig guys!

  • No way, it's too small for a Glock 19!

    They carry a Glock 43.

  • Oh good emails now have that iPhone ass:

Liked "The entire message I just sent repeated back to me because this fucking iPhone user can't be assed to use their goddamn words or even just do a regular emoji because it's two extra fucking buttons."

I miss emoticons (in fact I never switched :D), and just when I'm getting used to emojis they added this reaction shit, and now they're expanding that horse fuckery to email. Woo hoo.

  • Yeah if you wanna miss all the super cool creature episodes which (some) are some of the best ones!

  • Same same

  • Though tbf when searching for linux help you're more likely to actually get it, and it may not work or you may have to kinda translate it to your distro, but it's less likely to be that type of malicious tool you speak of on windows.

Meanwhile those "tools" are either SEOd to hell and back so the only thing that comes up when searching is them instead of some useful stackoverflow page, or windows docs post-w8 themselves tell you to fix every problem by reinstalling.

Actually that's a BIG reason I finally swapped to linux, for years it had been "but idk how to fix shit like I can on windows" until that tipping point when it became "well at least I can find a fix for linux, windows just keeps saying reinstall and the internet says 'use this totally not sketchy proprietary and sometimes expensive software.'"

  • Puns? Puns are why nobody likes nerds? Of all the things to complain about in the world, puns are such an issue for non-nerds?

    Weakness, get gud scrubs.
