Usually a lurker.Maybe I should've just shut up and thought for a bit longer before writing that comment...

If you want to talk to me elsewhere, you know how to reach me.

  • Neither of which is challenging my comment but partly agrees with it.Both the west and the east are on the road to collapse. And (as you said) the true question is when, not if.

  • But Europe (specifically the EU) is a homegenous market as in "being an open and free-to-move market"

  • Didnt know dbzer0 is turning into lemmy.ml

  • You call labels like Monstercat underground?Damn, okay buddy.

Like yeah, mainstream artists are less likely to publish there but established artists have published songs on it.

  • Bandcamp? Pretty much 100% (excluding deals with a label)Any other CD label? I don't care what the artist negotiated with their label. That is their own problem who they chose to do business with. But Spotify/Apple can't skim of 30% of the sale price.

And I don't buy on iTunes.I buy on OTOTOY and other sites I can get FLAC files from.

  • They pay less in converted money. But their salary is also 10x less vs yours.Do they not deserve the distraction?

  • Oh great, 0.25 instead of a 0.1 cent per listen what a great payout.Yeah, I'll continue buying the CDs/individual songs (assuming they make it not too annoying)

  • Option A: Pool your subscription in a family plan with others already using it anyway. The resulting share is far lower than the single subscription

Option B: Rip CDs and/or put on the pirate hat

  • In OPs example they don't have that already because whipping out a phone is very easy to do (just not before the situation happened).

For example, why Jellyfin over any of the arrs

Don't take it the wrong way, the *arrs are an awesome ecosystem and tool. Very cool integration and administration. But I could life without or replace them. Things like Jellyfin, immich, homeassistant are more integral in the sense of usage and replacing them would be a whole ordeal I would ideally like to avoid.

  • Kind of.To me they are more like accessories and not services I interact with (interact like homeassistant, immich, jellyfin).

Services like Traefik/Authelia are infrastructure. Needed but not required. They are like a road. Nice to have and receive a smooth ride but driving on the bare ground is possible but uncomfortable ;)

  • ImmichJellyfinHomeAssistantDawarichHortusFox

In that order.Things like the *arrs, traefik/authelia, etc. are just a necessity and not something that gives back like the 5 mentioned at first.

  • Not if they can harvest your precious data.

  • Proof for that allegation?

  • If that is so, please listed to a few songs by "Almost Vinyl" (releases on YT and Spotify) which are AI generated songs but not as slop but IMO more as an instrument in of itself. Then there is also "There I ruined it". He does his own music parodies but applies a voice filter to sound like the actual artist he is performing as (Like Adele singing about the experiences after a hot TacoBell meal).

Would be curious if and how strong your senses react to it despite knowing it's AI (based).

  • Another suggestion: Audials (it's an app on android but also has a desktop version for windows. Dunno about linux) has a very big collection of various actual internet radio streams both by traditional offerings (FM/AM/DAB(+)), indies and many more.Basically: If someone provides the M3U/M3U8, it can be listed there.

The great thing:They are catalogued by location (Country, State and county/munincipality) and by genre. It also has song ID on most channels so you could search by an artist or song and then continue to listed to it. That way you can also enjoy the radio culture of other countries.

Sometimes I flip through the channels if I am not fond of my playlist/media server.

  • Actually trade and they keep it or just lent it out until you want it back?

    • Suggestions: Depends.
    • Do I search for songs: Yes
    • Random mix: YesntI have my playlist of all songs I like/sorted by topic and use the algorithm-mix to have more of that (which is a complete mix of multiple genres. So the suggestions are very diverse but samey/repetetive at some point).

To find new music:A: By random chance like at restaurants, generally outside or youtube suggestionsB: Coming across a song while pirating an song/album, looking for the whole album and then liating to the artist if I enjoy more of their works.C: Window shopping (usually after coming after C) D: Spotify playlists on genres (before they automated those and tailored it to the user. Now it's only semi functional to find songs not already in a playlist). Listenbrainz has a suggestion mechanism but I never really looked at it. AFAIK it works by looking at the history of you and matching peers and then suggesting content (don't know if similar or "taste-breaking" suggestions)

Generally my journey is1: Find song somewhere2: Look what else the artist put out3: If the releases generally fit my taste, skip through some albums4: If I like an album I'll either buy or pirate itBuy: The album is reasonably priced-> New: I want it in peime condition or 2nd hand will not give me any major benefits-> 2nd Hand: It's noticable cheaper than new (rereleases) or out of sale

Sites like musicbrainz and discogs make it very easy to look for specific releases and also assisted me in finding new stuff while looking up metadata or cross-referencing other artists out of curiosity.

For example, I wasnt aware that almost artists of 'Tokyo Health Club' were individual artists and thus found out that SIKK-O still released songs that were similar to those of THC :)

So if someone likes or is not against japanese lyrics in music I have the following suggestions:

    • Chill Rap (also called Jazz Rap): Almost anything from Tokyo Health Club. Similar sounding artists of the group are SIKK-O and Tsubame. I think the others of the group became inactice or transitioned to being in producing roles.
    • City Pop: Mellow - The best of J-AOR (album mix)
    • City Pop: 変身 by Original Love (album)
    • Jazz: Maltese Falcon (マルタの鷹) Kazuhiko Kato (加藤和彦)
    • Tōhō/Touhou of various genres with a wide voice range: Anything by Akatsuki Records (暁Records)
    • Techno/Club: 攻殼機動隊 MEGATECH BODY.Cd., LTD. (It's a OST for the PS1 game 'Ghost in the Shell: Megatech Body' game)
    • Retrowave/Outrun: Anything by Carpenter Brut
  • Negligence to delete the account data after termination is a reason to be fined. They don't need to keep that data.Afaik the only reason would be if MTX were offered (for book-keeping reasons)
