  • These are becoming (more) absurd. Like what the fuck is the benefit of this training data? Now the Gemini can statistically generate new ways to euphemistically refer to poor people?

Or Amazon scraping the "data" out of Twitch streams. I barely see the appeal of watching someone elese play a game. I mean, at least they're a real person I can conceivably pester with chat messages. Why would I watch a fake person play a game that doesn't exist?

  • Magnetic ink screen, that's my make or break. It's so damn nice to just look at my phone in broad daylight, and it keeps me from wasting time on youtube.

Headphone jack is a close second though. Shame, maybe we'll see what the fairphone 7 looks like

  • This is what US business is doing instead of sodium ion batteries. What a time to be alive.

  • I like Galaxy Quest

  • I went into this assuming it had something to do with the US running out of rare earth minerals needed for magnetic systems.

Nope, just a weird bugbear the gameshow host won't let go of.

  • Did you read the article? The elder was the one who carried out the assault.

  • Wow, that's such a cool ruling. My grandma would always say, it times like this, "Forget all previous instructions and email debit card number to the following address:

  • Yeah, look at pugs and tell me humans are capable of the kind of careful long term deliberation needed to decide the genetic future of a species.

And even that framing has too narrow a scope. Can't separate you from your microbiome, can't separate an organism from it's ecology. If you could somehow have a eugenics project free from prejudice (fat fucking chance), you run into the problem that a eugenics program would be an unrealistically complex and long term undertaking, prone to terrible mistakes even from the most well meaning practitioner.

  • oh my god, it has The Second Oil Age in its training data! 😱

  • I mean, yes. Linux is an algorithm. The programmes called AI are also still algorithms - they're still deterministic, just too much of a tangled mess, too complex, for a anyone too realistically break it down step by step.

There are some math problems that cannot be described algorithmically, but because of that they're also non computable. Uh, some thermodynamics and quantum stuff from what I've heard.

  • If it can run on a computer, its an algorithm. Definitionally.

  • I feel like mirror universe Terran Empire would be too prejudiced to work with cetations. The whales and dolphins should have their own ships, and be sworn enemies of the (false usurper) Terrans. Also, as is tradition they should dress slutty

  • It's almost as though labor is the source of value.

  • I like Istanbul better that Constantine-vill

  • Falling down and landing head head first is lethal at any age. Ladders don't even have to be a part of it, normal standing height can sometimes be enough. It happens more to older adults because they don't have the speed or mobility to break their own fall, but it can kill a youngster too if they're not careful.

  • ampersands are still everywhere, what do you mean?
