I started with gnome back when Linux was a very young project. Then they started removing options despite the protests of their users so I moved to kde, which added functionality constantly, much to the delight of their users.
Back when I started Linux, poking at the system was fun and exciting (also you had to poke at the system anyway if you wanted to run anything). Now, I just want it out of the way and convenient.
I understand that newcomers might feel that they want to touch everything because it's all new and shiny, but I think the OS ought to be a creature of the shadows.
Hell, I'm not even married, and I've kidnapped... I mean I've not kidnapped anybody, but I supposed I could have. If I'd met someone who was into that, I guess... Although it does seem like a lot of work.
