  • I see now way this could possibly go wrong. These genes already come from the wild. And these plants would spend lots of the energy they produce on glowing, which is cool for us but a severe disadvantage in the wild. And deer would probably think it's hilarious to turn glowing plant into glowing poo.

It is possible they'd evolve some some kind of symbiotic relationship with animals over time. Small predatory animals like cats or ferrets might love to hunt in their light and keep them from getting eaten.

  • <actual attempt at making real world solarpunk>

    Faux! Chinese people bad!

  • Could work well enough? The idea is that you don't need to fully "light up" a street. See the photo here: https://www.isaaa.org/kc/cropbiotechupdate/article/default.asp?ID=21785

Especially if they further engineer brushes or small trees, like to glow strongest for a few hours after sundown. From my napkin math plants achieve something from 1% to 5% efficiency in converting sunlight into calories / chemical energy. I think that should be enough to provide low illumination to a small area around them.

Right now in order to put up an energy efficient streetlamp you need to dig in the earth to bury a cable (or have a big ass solar panel on top) and rely on high technology LED energy efficient lights. Now imagine just having to plant a seed. Such advanced biotechnology isn't just a question of environmentalism and resource efficiency, it also has the potential to democratize the technology needed to have higher quality of life anywhere on earth. Imho universities should be making such useful seeds that can replace complex industry supply chains and make them available for free.

  • And how are you qualified to talk about medical qualifications? That's just like your opinion, man!

  • Democracy Now, Majority Report (RIP Michael Brooks), This Old Tony

  • It's really not well written, by classical standards. It's very colorful and fun and entertaining. But the story and plot constantly use "deus ex machina". Just try an summarize the actions and plot of the movie, it makes no sense whatsoever. Really the story is garbage, but the characters and adventure still makes it fun.

I think that is a feature of a many modern "web novels" or fan fiction. A sort of liberation of the shackles of good writing. Web novels democratized authorship in a way. We really have far more entertaining authors with much more talent than was made to believe (Tangent: A bit like porn today, now that everybody can do it on their own, from their home without some creepy porn producer, we have far better and more creative porn than ever). Most people are creative and pretty good as amateur writers. They just haven't learned the craft of writing a good story lol (cannot be said about Rowlings though, she should have known better).

Why some things become a hit and others not is an unsolved question. If we could answer that, book publishing and movie studios would work very differently. Don't ascribe to quality which can equally be ascribed to luck or marketing.

  • EEU social democracy is dying quickly too. It did not work. There is no left. Ever since the Reagan and the fall of the USSR and the "third way", the so called left does not believe in anything any more. Only power for themselves and taking certain positions to get elected.

History is full of examples of democratic socialists getting slaughtered, literally. The US is responsible for much of it. The plutocrats are definitely going to try to kill them or put them in camps.

  • Yes it is dark:

This is intended to handle the increase of calls that are related to one incident, so callers get automatically routed to an AI agent who asks if they are calling regarding the incident. If the answer is yes, then callers can receive information or updates, and if it's no, then the callers are transferred to a human.

This combats multitudes of calls piling up and taking longer time to potentially answer an emergency call. The OPCD said the AI will not be used to handle emergency calls, only to direct such calls to a human dispatcher.

Basically they are testing this to see if they can handle multiple callers to keep the lines and operators open for new emergencies. They are testing and not being irresponsible.

What is dark about this is that nobody even read the fucking article but jumps to conclusion on the fucking clickbait headline. We are becoming a global civilization of programmed morons where you only have to hit the right trigger word and everyone goes stupid.

  • They are not influenced by culture or religion. Correct?

    No

  • Right, it should work great for anything you need to copy paste and want more compact on the screen, or for urls too. Even for checksums.

  • Apparently what I'm writing here is very easy to misunderstand. Obviously what I meant is what parents wish for their children - and it's not sex work to pay the bills.

It is fundamental human nature and psychology to see sex and sex work as something not mundane. It carries special consequences and emotions and meaning. This has nothing to do with culture or religion and I very much doubt it can be changed through culture. Nor should it it be changed because of some "principle" you think is more important. It's baked into us through millions of years of evolution and sexual selection. You could even call it one of the fundamental forces of life. A social forces that shaped every part of our culture, stories, politics.

I'm all for decriminalizing sex work and respecting people, but most sex workers would prefer to work in other fields if it wasn't so profitable or they weren't so desperate. Money is power and if you pay someone to do something it can be a form of coercion.

Personally I see being able to generate pornography and eventually replace sex work through artificial means as a fundamental advance in humanity's ethical evolution. Similar to artificial meat and an end to slaughtering animals to eat them. A base desire that we can replace through technological means.

  • Yes, promotional mascots. Also maybe portable toilet cleaners. Roadkill collector? Crime scene cleaners? Broadcaster definitely. Restroom attendant also.

But seriously, do you think this is a controversial view? Do you think parents want (EDIT: their adult) children or friends to have to do sex work? Would anybody go "oh wow I'm so proud of you"? I do not think so. So lowering the demand and therefor supply pressure is overall a societal good.

  • You honestly don’t believe that there are sex workers who are relying on their job for a paycheck? Why?

No human should have to do sex work ...

  • Well, lol. Theoretically with VR headsets and cyberdildonics like automatic fleshlights / masturbators it could come pretty close with the current technology. The kind of looks and environment and dirty talk you want. Obviously it would still be limited.

So AI generated VR porn with cyberdildonics actually could make much of sex work redundant. Theoretically this is a good thing. No human should have to do sex work or porn or onlyfans just for money to survive, if they don't genuinely enjoy doing it. (EDIT)

China already regulated this so that AI chat bots must not create addiction. It's probably a wise course to follow lol.

  • It's very pretty and a worthwhile attempt, but personally I think it's rather unreadable lol. All you need is four circles for the four major groups that defederate.

  • I mean most of the influencer bullshit is artificial engagement anyway. People playing a role to entertain, gain attention, make money. If you look at porn comments, they are all dumb so it wouldn't surprise me that the boomers leaving comments are similarly dumb "roleplaying", knowing that this is just a fantasy sharing between gooners. They might simply not care if it's real or not.

Personally I don't get it, but whatever.

  • I mean that math is so far beyond me I have no clue if or how the proofs would "create anything" or lead to anything useful. I'm sure they do, besides adding a little bit to our civilization's knowledge.

I do suspect that LLMs think very "broadly" with a very broad knowledge but can't really reason very deep without training for a special problem. So rapidly trying different approaches does sound like how they do it. So maybe it is a little bit similar to a typing monkey except that it apparently did these proofs with a relatively limited budget.
