  • Look I'm not saying the Republicans are good. Not in the slightest. They suck. And worse than Democrats.

  • Freedom of Choice Act: Joe Manchin (D) voted against, nullifying the tie breaker effect that the VP (D) would've had.

Reproductive Freedom for Women Act: Bill was introduced too late, killed on Jan 3rd 2025 as it still hadn't reached the senate floor by presidential turnover. Certainly feels like it was on purpose. It's not like senators don't know how long bills take to pass.

Women's Health Protection Act: Joe Manchin (D) voted against, nullifying the tie breaker effect that the VP (D) would've had.

Ensuring Access to Abortion Act: Never passed the 60 vote threshold.

Freedom to Travel for Health Care: Never passed the 60 vote threshold.

You got more? Keep them coming. I can keep showing you how Democrats torpedo their own bills and then blame the Republicans to keep the status quo and keep fundraising off of us.

Yeah for the last two there, the filibuster is the culprit. But Democrats also had the opportunity to get rid of it with Biden and didn't. So then you deal with it, keep bringing the bill on the floor till you get cloture.

But at least they don't try to set everything on fire. Still the better option. But still not great.

  • Also, democrats had had since 1973 to codify roe v wade but they never did.

The democrats are also not a serious party. They are grifters.

And that's why we are in this mess.

  • I really like this response. This is how I approach it as well on a higher level.

However here we seemed to have glossed over "what is right and wrong" which is a very complex issue and might be biased by the observer.

Hobbes has touched on this subject and the whole construct of society as we know it in his book "The Leviathan"

What we might see as wrong in the case of the killer and their victims, on his end is just an expression of his free will. In his mind he might not be doing anything wrong, given different guidelines for moral or empathy. In fact he may not even consider his victims alive.

So we judge them based on our morals and views of good and evil. Are we correct or are they correct? Hobbes states that the morals of the majority are what we follow in a society. But it's just something that we've constructed.

Edit: once again I'm using a case in where the situation is very obvious and clear cut. But think about when there is more nuance. A society views a certain race or species as a food source or livestock (think us and cows, or us and farmed fish) Are we correct or are we wrong to do what we do?

  • So let's start with a hypothetical scenario. (I know strawman, but we're talking about meta levels of philosophy here and experiments like these usually serve very well to prove a point or contradiction in someone's logic)

If there is a serial killer who can never be satisfied and can escape any sort of containment given enough time. Is it wrong to execute them?

  • OhMyGod This is awesome

  • "I'm not the sharpest crayon in the basket. "

"Does the pope shit in the woods?"

  • Why would you do that to a minion?! You monster.

  • Agreed, ai slop is stealing all the attention.

  • I always thought it was a copyright thing. "My Phone" is too close to "iPhone"

  • I thing there's something here. I don't think that this is the solution though.

    What I think is good:

    • A default place for posts
    • A way to remove posts from a community without nuking the user's post
    • Possibilities of cross posting and for de-duping efforts

    What I think is bad:

    • A default community managed by admins (unscalable)
    • seems like a huge deviation from the current activity pub spec (which is kinda terrible ngl)
    • will need a very specific adapter to keep compatibility with other existing activity pub front ends.
  • Thanks for the heads up on which instances to avoid!!

  • Is that millhouse??

  • Omg that garbage looks like an elephant toothpaste experiment.

  • That's gotta be the the riskiest of clicks I've ever done.

  • While getting a rocket or probe to hit the sun smack in the middle sounds hard to do, you can get obliterated by it with much less delta-v.

You need to get to the Earth's escape velocity and just cleverly align the angle of escape so that you get an eccentric enough heliocentric orbit that you'd end up some 6 million kms close to the sun. Anything closer than that is literally overkill.

  • Maybe a bit of an unpopular opinion here, but how about you just let other people have their fun with a holiday however they want? With everything being a constant firehouse of shit coming at us lately, just let us be happy for a day and indulge in this nonsense.

  • [insert train/subway nsfw copy pasta]

  • Pretty sure that would count as monopoly as well and the sale wouldn't be approved.
