    I'm seeing almost daily the fuck-ups resulting from somebody trying to fix something with ChatGPT, then coming to the forums because it didn't work.

  • It's funny how many people ruffle their feathers over this. Same type of comments as when somebody first shared this poll here: you can't expect this to be representative, it's not a yes/no question etc.

    Let's put it like this: I do not want AI pushed on me in almost every online situation. That is a yes/no question to me.

    Why? Because it's not ready, wastes the planet, and is the USA's big gamble.

    First reaction is "social media really isn't safe for teenagers" - but then I think again: the worst stuff always comes from the USA, usually the platform formerly known as Twitter. We really should ban that shit.

    It could be some sort of Streisand effect brought on by people complaining about "bot accounts" for days/weeks now.People thinking something like "You scared of trolls? Lol, let's troll you some more!"

    Also, some of those accused seem like very normal people to me who also comment in other communities and do not, in fact, delete their account.

  • Instead they do The Diplomatic Thing and take him seriously. Usually appeasing, sometimes crawling up his bunghole, but never asking the obvious: "have you lost it completely?" (Well, Carney apparently does. I was thinking about that sorry bunch on my home continent)

    Sometimes somebody manages to walk the line by saying something that will please his Dumbness but is very obviously over the top to everybody else. Mark Rutte - not that I like him much otherwise - did that once. That was fun. But it doesn't really help either.

  • I love Le Guin! I just started re-reading her opus; but since this is a (short) story I might have skipped it the first time. I also aded some Tschaikowski to my e-reader, if I like that I will try to remember this.

    full-blown examinations of the concepts of utterly alien intelligence.

    In this context I will always recommend Stanislaw Lem's "Eden", although it has little to do with differences in speed.

  • Reminds me of the idea that intelligence might express itself in ways that we cannot perceive, because it's so slow. Like Rock trolls taking a year to speak a sentence and a century to have this little conversation. Ents are a little faster I guess.
