  • Either you're smart enough to understand the concept of consent or you aren't. Even if there is a sliding scale of intelligence of creatures (I have some issues with the concept of intelligence as a thing that can reasonably be objectively measured, but we can put that aside for now), whether you're intelligent enough to understand what you will be doing and what will be done to you and make an informed decision about whether you want to do it seems a pretty binary thing, and largely independent of your intelligence in other contexts (e.g. ability to use tools).

You could make the argument that alien sex might be complicated enough for whatever reason that that the aliens would argue that humans couldn't meaningfully understand everything that was being done to them and thus could not, by definition, give informed consent, but at least from my experience, humans seem pretty on board with things they don't fully understand. Whether it's ethical to fuck someone who has admitted that they don't know anything about what you're going to do to them, is aware they may be harmed by it, and wants to do it anyway is another question.

Besides, all we'd need is for one human to fuck one alien for science to know whether or not it was safe.

  • Welcome to our little townWhy don't you settle downHere, just fill out the paperwork and you can look aroundWe workAnd then we workAnd then we workAnd then we workAnd then we workAnd then we workAnd then we end up in the ground

  • The French Revolution? The system where everyone even slightly suspected of not being loyal to the resistance was executed summarily for spectacle, up to and including its own leader? That's the thing you're going to put your name on and say "if people really cared about freedom, they'd support this"?

Can somebody please remind me why I still use Lemmy?

  • they had that picture locked and loaded

    god bless furries

  • Yeah, but think about what the GOVERNMENT could afford! They were SUPER rich back then!

  • Neither of the parts of that comment I quoted could reasonably be talking about Rainfurrest, first of all. Second of all, nowhere did I say it wasn't a big deal; I said the people who perpetrated that were quite severely punished and nothing even remotely similar to that has happened before or since. Lastly, I can't help but notice you didn't reply to the other person who replied to you asking why the entire furry fandom should be criticized because of the actions of a tiny handful of their members nearly a decade ago.

  • Trending toward socialism I can see. Actively attacking anyone who isn't vegan I cannot see.

  • And I know you know that Rainfurrest happened in 2015 and nothing even remotely like it has been seen at the hundreds of much larger furry conventions that have happened since.

  • It is fun to occasionally partake in such debauchery. I’m no prude and I’m not afraid to admit I’m also a bit of a horny guy. So partaking in the occasional kinky, sexy fiction can be fun. Except for a furry it isn’t really fiction, which is where a lot of weirdness and unease comes from.

I'm a furry and I'm unsure what you mean by this

members inside of communities will get pushed outside of this comfort bubble and be reminded about reality. This is the cause for a lot of infamous furry drama.

and I'm really not sure what you're talking about here

  • You don't think everyone who gets mad at race swapping is racist, but when I point out examples of people liking one thing that was race swapped white to black but not another, and present an argument for why, and another argument regarding why no one got mad at the first three items in the meme, you don't even address them. You simply refuse to accept any explanation besides racism and accuse me of cherry-picking.

Is racism present? Sure. Is it the primary driving force you're making it out to be? Fuck no.

If all you want is to be mad, then just say that. No one's stopping you.

  • You would think, you would really think, that a platform built on federation and being inherently anti-censorship would have some resistance against becoming an echo chamber.

  • holy shit, the official account of Nobody from the Illiad?

  • wait what video show the rest of us

  • And if something like turns out to have been made by a bad person, I retroactively secretly hated it all along.

  • "The reason not as many people got mad at Spiderverse is not because they created a new character with his own story that isn't tied to Peter Parker's in any way, instead of just painting Peter Parker black and leaving everything else the same, but because the racism machine malfunctioned that day."

    Oh my god, fuck you.

Sure, some conservative grifters are going to get mad when they see a black person no matter what. But the fact that a lot more people, including many self-professed libs, got mad at Ariel should probably tell you that the fact that those grifters exist doesn't mean that everyone who dislikes it when characters are race swapped is a conservative who just flies into a rage whenever they see a black person.

I'm not sure whether you're trolling or not, and at this point I don't care. This conversation can serve no purpose anymore.

  • If being mad about Ariel being a different race in the remake is solely attributable to racism, why weren't they mad about Miles Morales?

I'm not mad because Ariel is black now. I'm mad because they changed her race rather than create a new character. I'd be more mad if a black character became white in a remake.

  • r/iamverysmart

but seriously do you realize how insufferable you sound when you make an appeal to your own authority

  • Okay. I'll concede that first point, and that conservatives fit the meme perfectly. I'm pretty sure the meme isn't exclusively talking about conservatives, though. What about the second point?
