  • Our only defense is there’s still more of them. Even with ancient boomers dropping like flies, there’s so many

  • We knew. We didn’t listen. Reagan was called “the great communicator” for a reason. I admit he had me fooled.

But seriously, he was presidential and imposing, you could see practically feel the call to action when he said “Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall”. He was not embarrassing as the face of the us, he was not as blatant a liar, he didn’t pardon criminals, there were limits to the civil rights he trampled, and he had a platform other than enriching his buddies.

Criticize Reagan all you want as the start of the downfall, and you’re probably right, but he was downright liberal compared to our current chaos

  • Yeah, I came here to say this. My fellow x’ers are finally getting some political influence in all the wrong ways

The only comfor I have is my state was one of the few where the MAGAts were close to 1/3

  • My company fixed even more bugs “with” ai during June. Because of AI project Glasswing and the fear of looking stupid, I was finally able to get priority for updating everything. All the tools, all the dependencies, all the programming languages are now on supported versions. Even the most legacy projects are now up to date. Tens of thousands of bugs fixed.

  • Farley talks a good game but has always been full of shit. If he agrees that ford needs to turn around to compete with new technology, he should talk to the CEO about it

Where’s that conviction when you gave up on EVs instead of trying to improve your own technology? Where have their ever been ford EVs that normal people could buy? What about those for employees eager to jump to new technology when you shut down their factories?

And seriously, they’re competitive with Chinese cars in Europe because they resell Geelys (Chinese cars)? What kind of bs is that?

  • What about swasticars and Bezos mobiles?

  • And we hear so much about the bad aspects of technology, but technology is a tool that can be used or abused, and it is moving fast. Think back ten years and even in that short a term technology has improved your life hugely

  • Get off the internet and pay attention to real life. Is this what “touch grass” means? Even politics used to be about reality but we’re in an age of internet politics that’s entirely toxic. Yes the internet can be toxic and we’d all be more healthy with less of it

all of it could just go up in smoke tomorrow.

It always could. The only difference is now you have people shouting on the internet about it and politicians who seem intent on causing it.

But even in the places with the most toxic politics, it usually won’t. Even where the hatred spite and racism is the worse, the reality is your neighbors and commutative more impact.

  • Not that it’s stopped them before but is this even legal? When congress allocated money toward cancer research, you can’t legally redirect it to proving renewable energy is bad for the environment or all vaccines cause autism

  • Bold ideas, no need for scientific value

  • Somewhere in between. A big part of my role is making processes better. I could spend the entire year as a top tier programmer then get shitted on in my review because “what larger initiative did you lead?” So I do the stuff. When someone has an idea I get it done. When I have an idea I get it done. But people are hard so usually I just get it done

It can be frustrating at times - we just had all hands on deck response to a business emergency. 3 of 4 initiatives were things I started and worked my way through the teams to 80% done and counting, yet somehow it’s someone else’s idea and they didn’t even include me until I said “wtf?”

  • When I find something I like, I look for that brand in the hope of finding something else I like

Except docker and Levi. They fit differently by what country they were manufactured in. Maybe Malaysian Levi’s fit well but the “exact same” pants made in Vietnam’s wont

  • people can’t separate fiction from reality

They can’t. I’m probably taking a tangent from what you intended but the last decade in the us has clearly demonstrated that people can’t distinguish fiction from reality. That people’s words with a global audience can be very harmful even when easily disproven.

We need to clearly distinguish “news” media from opinion media and hold news to reality. Opinion shows on Fox “News” are a great example of problematic media that needs to be addressed, as is a billionaire owner overriding the news desk of a formerly reputable news service

  • My only real interest in this as a controversy, is bringing back single use bathrooms open to all would be nicer for all of us while leaving this outrage nowhere to go

  • Was about to downvote, before I looked at the community. This is not an unpopular opinion

  • The article also talks about a spinoff of AlphaFold…..

I didn’t click into what that spinoff was but maybe an even better headline is “for profit company creates a free AI to predict protein folding and is moving to monetize it”

  • Are we reading the same article?

The incident took place at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport in January 2025

  • So the important takeaway is to delete your phone before customs. Presumably you have an encrypted backup you can restore without too much effort

  • I’m not saying I agree with it, just that it’s always been so
