Usually I bet they’re happy to throw a little cash wherever we say. But being in the hook for this much money because Trump attacked for no reason and no planning? That has to make them unhappy.

  • I don’t think I’ve seen those since before my teenagers were born.

    A few weeks ago I showed my younger kid how to replace headlights on his old car

    The problem is you can find led replacements that fit the same base “for offroad use”

    When to be legal, to not cause glare problems, someone would need to re-engineer the assembly and people would need to be willing to spend that kind of money

  • It’s tough trying to decide which reply to post this under so I guess at the top….

    I do enjoy drinking occasionally, and I also drink much less than I used to. I admit to unhealthy binge drinking in my early 20s. Now, I essentially never have enough to get impaired, so that’s good. I do also respect my brain and want to take care of it. Also as I get older, alcohol is just less appealing and the hangover is harder to deal with. I’ll have a couple drinks every few weeks

    I’m actually tempted to try to drink more often. It helps me socially and helps reduce stress, so why shouldn’t I have a drink or two every weekend. I do know alcohol is a sneaky bitch though, so would never actually try to drink more

    And of course when I mentioned this to a buddy, I found out he had gotten up to 2/day by following that logic. Yikes

  • You could, but capitalism … most cars do not get aftermarket reflectors, no one would pay the significant cost, and LEDs fit into standard reflectors. There’s a whole bunch of failure here

    Next time some homeless person is pulling out his hunting knife to try to steal my dog, I want there to be a police presence that can handle it. However all too often that police presence does not serve public safety but instead causes harm

  • Same form factor is the problem: LEDs need a different beam pattern with a sharp cutoff, otherwise they’re harming other drivers.

    But adaptive headlights are even better. They seem to work really well and I’m a huge fan. I have really bright LED headlights so I can see everything but I can also watch them change to keep other cars in a dark spot so I don’t blind them.

    The combination of super bright LEDs with adaptive headlights seem like a huge safety improvement for us all

  • I partly agree, headlights are causing harm by blinding other drivers. But adaptive headlights seem to work. Brighter should only be allowed with adaptive headlights

    I can drive through a busy area with “high beams” on but watch dark spots move to keep other cars in the dark

    The adaptive headlights in my car are truly amazing, and every time I’m blinded by oNcoming headlight glare I wish everyone had them

  • My Tesla has full functionality whether I subscribe to anything or not. Subscribing gets me cell service so it can update as we go, and is similar in price to cell service for other gadgets

    With cell service

    • maps have live traffic
    • I can listen to streaming music

    Without cell service

    • maps can’t update live traffic data
    • I can listen to streaming music on my driveway, but otherwise use Bluetooth to stream from my phone

    Ok, fine, full self driving is now a subscription

    I worked at a startup once where one of the guys was honest about that. He had helped a prior startup succeed and made his money, so was not interested in working.

    We paid for the name so investors would think we could succeed. He just screwed around when he actually made it in to work, but occasionally talked to investors about the great things he was doing
