  • Vast and bountiful

Is a wild way to completely miss the tone that was almost certainly attached to a Dutch guy saying

Everything is three times the size

Which I'm guessing is kinda the slightly bemused bewilderment tone you get when remarking on something ridiculous

  • Honestly it feels like it's just 2nd nature, I don't even really have to think about it. Every time the pen comes off the page (usually every word, but it can happen mid-word in some cases), I just go back and finish off any letters that need it.

My signature is a personalised scribble I learned a long time ago, it comes naturally due to the number of times I've signed things, rather than anything linked to handwriting in general.

I've not hand-written in an accented language for a while, but I'm pretty sure I treat the accents similarly

  • Ah interesting! I've met a few Americans over the years that have been a bit confused by my usage of the term

My understanding was the conventional usage of the word meant the kind a kid keeps over there

  • For Americans: in the UK, a diary is your personal calendar, not a daily journal of your thoughts

  • Mouldy yoghurt

This was something like 16-17 years ago now so it's clearly left a mark

It was about 2-3am, I lived on the ground floor of a student house and I wanted a snack. Remembering I had bought some yoghurts a day or two before I figured that's what I was going for.

Now I'm not really sure what happened, if I picked up an old one I'd not noticed or it was just bad from the shop, but it didn't notice until after I'd taken the first mouthful.

Needless to say it tasted genuinely awful and put me off yoghurt in general for a good while

  • Could double entendre it and do

    [["😃", 0],
     [0, "😃"]]

    For a JSON Bourne Identity

  • "you know you don't have to display humanity?"

"Why are you still doing it?"

  • A big part of why many of the things in this thread haven't aged well, is because a lot of what made these shows original and unique was copied to death following the fame of the original.

If you weren't there for the original release of a piece of media, there's a good chance you're not necessarily seeing it in the context where the accolades make sense.

Seinfeld basically invented the 3 camera sitcom and a lot of the key tropes in the format. If you go back today having not watched it before, the vast majority of it just comes across as a boring sitcom, because every sitcom to follow took notes from the way they did Seinfeld.

It's the same with the UK office, it basically invented the modern mockumentary format as well as the cringe comedy era that followed (and gave us things like peep show). If you look back now without that context, it just looks like a generic combination of both those things.

  • This is pretty good, though I expect even if it's accepted it's going to be a long journey before you can reliably use it

If we're adding stuff to http, it would be nice for some additional status codes, things have moved on a bit since the early days

  • Seems like a good policy to give non US AI companies a boost whilst also causing a US recession, given a large chunk of the US economy is currently being propped up by the AI bubble.

Wasn't one of the results of the failed 90s encryption export controls, that as a result, other strong encryption schemes were created elsewhere and kneecapped the advantage that the US previously held in that area

  • My god, they incarnated the big brain wojack

  • They wanted the success they got from the steam deck for a decade before it happened

It's going to be at least another decade before they even consider the possibility of bowing out again

  • I'm curious if there's a story behind this choice

(The Guinness needs no explanation, great choice)

  • I'm assuming you'd like the pizza extra spicy?

  • Had to double check my original assertion, but I was more or less on the money

Fugu is a Japanese delicacy, specifically tiger pufferfish which has that neurotoxin, prepared by an expert to have the toxin safely removed.

Most other pufferfish have no toxin to be worried about regardless of how poorly it's prepared

  • Are you really escaping the fate there? Just pulling the appointment up really

I'm fairly sure most pufferfish are safe to eat too, I guess if it's particularly badly prepared, it might give you salmonella

Not sure I'd go for that, but it's your meal

  • Just as it comes or would you like a dressing?

  • Nice, to be clear, is the acid included in the pizza topping list or separate?
