  • Internet users are 90% Americans on Lemmy or on the technical forums. It's to prevent being flooded with US stuff.

  • I dont believe teachers or parents to be qualified for such diagnosis. It could be that the kids are angry, annoyed, or annoying, and people think it's autism because they saw one once in a movie. Remember that adults are not very smart in general.

Another theory could be that those 70 years old people are boomers that have been spanked a lot and are more quiet compared to kids whose parents let them do anything (too much freedom and not enough education).

Anyway, I wouldn't trust people to judge anything medical. My boomer parents say stupid things most of the time, yet they do it confidently and think their opinion is the only valid one.

A dumb opinion would be that not caring about others and saying stupid stuff is "autistic," are all the boomers autists after all? See what I did?

  • It's not normal.

  • Too bad I haven't used Microsoft products for the past 15 years. Slop slop slop...

  • Thanks.

  • That's not how black-light works. Please explain.

  • I haven't used Windows for more than 10 years and I'm happy too.

I think it's worth repeating that Ubuntu has been available since 2005 (20 years now) and from the start it filled the needs of most users at home (i.e. watching crap on YouTube and using LibreOffice). Most users I have seen around me only have basic requirements and should have switched decades ago.

TL;DR: if you complain about your computer nowadays and don't play games, install Ubuntu or Mint or anything else, I don't care anymore.

  • What is this project, and why does it require specific Python 3?

  • Unemployment and despair started in the 90s IMHO. It can be nostalgia speaking though.

Up to the 80s you could have a job for life, cocaine, naked women on TV every day, neon colors everywhere. My experience of the 90s was depressing grunge music and faded colors. Again, nostalgia I guess.

  • French but I guess it's equivalent in other European countries. I have some lawyers friends who work in that subject, an they confirm that fighting against lies takes months. I don't have that time to waste.

  • There is need for a cause anymore in the software industry. You either make layoffs and pretend you have no money, or you put everyone on a PIP with unrealistic expectations. That's the new capitalism all over the world. And if you want to fight and sue, it can take months and you'll spend your own money on lawyers.

  • I was fired without any explanation before Christmas because the company I worked for got $20 millions in VC funding (lol) and "had to" cut costs. I asked my manager why I was fired, and he could not give me a reason why.

Anyway, yes I'm working on my garden, getting some groceries, and learning more about the programming language Rust. I haven't been so active for a long time. And if I still had a job, I would be working anyway because end-of-year holidays have never been real holidays to me. Usually most of the employees are working from home or on holidays, and it's pretty quiet.

  • Time and patience.

  • A lot of comments cheering for the mafia, and say it's a good time to optimize our code, when all the billionaires want is to prevent us from having jobs, computers, and fun. Pathetic at usual.

  • It's not obvious because it was a popular name in France before the war.

  • As a completer beginner I turned to gpt

I tell people not to do that all the time. They'd rather listen to the statistical vomit machine.

  • Rust meme I guess. You borrow through a reference, and references have the & symbol like C++.

  • There's a new web site called gogool which may have some answers for you.
