Just... use Debian for servers. Using Ubuntu is like trying to use an amphibian car for street racing; it's just not made and suitable anymore for that purpose at all.
Well it does make a significant difference for diagnosing; multiple being slow can mean they're just (D)DOS'd (eg. by scrapers), and the unaffected use Anubis, know the user agents, blocked the IPs etc.; down could mean that the latest lemmy update had a bug and is crashing.
"AI" as in the hyped and since 5 years mainstream "Generative AI": Jetbrains' locally run code line completion. Sometimes faster than writing, if you have enough context.
Machine learning stuff that existed well before, but there was exactly 0 hype: Image tagging/face detection.
See how it's apparently newsworthy that a simple chess engine on the C64 can beat ShitSkibidi. It was fucking obvious, to us. Like that random.randint(0, 10) is much worse at figuring out the sum of 2 and 4 than just calculating 2+4. However, it was not as obvious to the people that don't understand how ML/DL fundamentally works.
Similarly, it's sad to see a lot of projects that have to do with Machine Leaning being essentially killed and made worthless by people just throwing everything at ShitSkibidi instead of generating/collecting training data themselves and training a purpose built model, not text based. I see that in private as well as at work. They want to use "AI" in risk management now. Will that mean they'll use all their historical data on customers, the risks they identified and the final result to build two or more specific models? Most likely, no. They'll just throw all data at the internal ShitSkibidi wrapper, expect the resulting data to be usable at all, and then ask it how they should proceed. And then expect humans to actually fact check everything it returned.
While unlocking the bootloader [...] unleashes the full potential of the bootloader, it also poses a security risk. Even with your lockscreen protected with a pattern/PIN/password, not having flashed a custom recovery, having an anti-theft app installed (maybe even converted/installed as a system app) your phone's data is easily accessible for a knowledgeable thief.
All the thief needs to do is reboot into the bootloader and boot or flash a custom recovery such as ClockWorkMod or TWRP. It's then possible to boot into recovery and use ADB commands to gain access to the phone's data on the internal memory (unless you have it encrypted) and copy/remove files at will.
Granted, the risk seems low. The thief would not only require knowledge of fastboot, he would have to turn off the phone before you have issued a wipe command using an anti-theft app. You could of course flash back the stock recovery & relock the bootloader after being done with flashing stuff, but that would require you to unlock it again if needed which will erase your userdata.
Of course, a thief can/is also the government.
But, most phones can be unlocked by the pigs regardless, with eg. Cellebrite. The best bet is probably a pixel, as it can be relocked easily, with graphene. Or no phone at all.Also, I'd guess many Cellebrite tricks work with (weak?) pins/patterns. Use a password, and no fingerprint. And on eg. graphene, the emergency wipe after 10 wrong pws etc.
I know how it's run, and I know that it's shit. You mean just because something exists it's suddenly good and all? Are we not allowed to criticize and remove risks as much as possible?
